Although I hate to say it the Zed is an absolute bargain!

300BHP for £4K:(

What other motors are out there that you can mod up fairly reasonably for little cash!

I heard a rumour that you can take the Poopras up to 500 BHP for about a grand, fact or fiction?

I wouldn't want to have the fastest frog on four wheels though:D

I'm Suprized no body mentioned Volvo 850 T5. Known as the Balistic Brick. 220bhp standard. Just open the actuator to max and drill a few holes in the air box and 265bhp. I picked up a 1 owner from new with full service history in mint condition estate with a RICA chipped ECU 320bhp for £2200. It double's as a winter car and family bus as Good Lady has a Celica TRD? or DRT? or HRT what ever. 2.2 Turbo Jap import.:D

Never heard of one of these, I might have another look at a T5 for my everyday car now you've said that!

Where do I learn more?

Yeah, mine ended up with 230bhp at the wheels. Was undrivable!

Mine's got about 300@wheels and it's superb to drive. :)

..but I was surprised that no-one has mentioned a trusty old Saab 900 Turbo!

I had a few 9000 turbos, which are much heavier, the latest being a 220BHP Carlsson, and that had Porche eating midspeed acceleration that a lot of stock Zeds would be impressed by!

Good call John. Beleive it or not a SAAB 900 Turbo was my first car, kindly donated by my uncles company (not sure they knew about this). Managed to get in insured under the old mans insurance.

What a great car, felt really quick but also real safe.....

No, my 205

ah aha. :)

I know where there is a 405 ond a 205 Mi16 for sale.

The Old bill don't use them because there slow. There is a crowd from Blackburn or Rochdale that sell V70 T5's ex cop cars for about £3,000 some are chipped some not, but standard V70 T5 is 260bhp. You can have any colour you want so long as its White.

The 850 is the same car a bit older less ponies and no colour coded door handles. Cheeper to find a good 70,000 mile motor any colour and no holes. The ex P.C.'s are in Auto trader every week.

Tempting as a runner, but I'd just end up modding it too!

Right, sit down the lot of you......(Otherwise you'll fall over p!ss!ng yourselves.

I used to race on the Hockenhiem in Germany once a year..

Top I hear you say, in your Z?

Nope...in my Camper van!! Ok so you've all fell of the chair..

It was a T25 VW Transporter (the last to have the engine in the back) otherwise known as the brick for its obvious shape and lack of aerodinamics.

So, mine had a 3.5 rover V8 up its bottom with standard flywheel (about 1/4 the size and wieght of a rover one) Malary Dissy, Hedman headers, 4 pot Carb yup with a huge silver cromb air filter. 285BHP at the wheels may not sound much compaired to the Z but trust me, on a standard VW box 4 speed you could set off in 3rd and still burn off a RS turbo on the stright!!

Anyone else done anything as mad?

Mate has a T25 too with a Porsche 3.2 engine and box in. Hes convertions runs into the £1ks mines beat him. I came 3rd most times on the hock. Germans had put just about every engine you can think of in.

I start a another post.

So let all get bangers, and slap silly engines in and have a banger drag race!!! :p

Hi

I haven't raced camper vans or HGV's but we used to smash bangers when I was a lad. We'd just buy MOT failures and have demolition Derby's it was good fun. The stupidest thing I ever did was at the end of the sevenies (old b******d) I tried proddy bike racing hoping to get a sponser or benifactor.

I had a Paggett RD 400. Sponden monoshock frame 5 gallon tank, the works. Kenny Robert's replica (Kenny Senior). Did well first couple of races winning both Novice categories at Brans and Donnington. On my third and final outing a Fluckborough I was wiped out on the airpin by a novice on a 500 Gama trying to out brake about ten bikes. the result was blue flashing light and a written of bike. On cold day's I still limp. Needless to say I never got my chance, but do a lot of karting these day's for fun. Always been a speed freek and now so is my lad is very good at karting and could do well in future if he keeps his hands of the birds.

If you're after cheap ex cop cars the guy you need to speak to is called Paul Mimmack and he's in Blackpool - advertises in NW autotrader every week and tends to specialise in the cleaner Jags and top end rovers

(I don't have his number now, but used to kive around to corner from him).

I vote that the best car for the cheapest money is the ...

RENAULT 21 TURBO

Ive had 2 of them, and they are a rapid car for 500 quid and that was back in 2001.

Now you can pick em up for 250-300 quid.

They are 175bhp but have 200ft/lb of torqe and they kick you in the back when the T3 turbs comes on at a std 13.5psi!

7.2s 0-60 too which was nice.

I currently have an mr2 turbo which i may be selling to get a 300zx tt, im gonna test drive one and see if its worth upgrading.

mr2 is fun and fast but a lot more expensive than my old 21 quick brick. might get another 21 turbo just 4 fun theyre cheap as chips pitty they break down so much :(

Guys,

Everyone is going on about how slow some of the older motors are but remember what Top Gear did with the XJS. I'm sure losing a bit of excess weight would just add to the fun.
