Hi

Now my Z is a TT auto UK. I use 95 unleaded, why? because I thought that was the recommended fuel. It says this on my petrol cap. Is this wrong?

Featured Replies

Not unless you prefer Optimax or Super Unleaded. Standard is fine if your car doesnt detonate and its not modified too much.

No thats right as far as I know. UK is OK on 95, but high octane might get you a bit more oomph if the ECU will notice it.

Mine is a jap import, so its a different fuel map, ideally I think it should run on 100ron!!and my petrol cap has squiggles on it!! I think it traslates into "only use Optimax"!!! LOL:rofl:

Paul

The ECU will adapt to Super or Optimax as it is self-learning.

I believe the slightly more expensive cost of Super/Optimax is negated by the better mpg they give.

Interesting thing this RON issue.

I find it very strange how engines that are supposedly the same, react differently to the same fuel. However, I use Optimax and nowt' else. Only problem is that I have to go out of my way to get to a Shell station.

Another thing I've noticed is the difference in mileage I can achieve by the time the fuel needle reaches the middle bar.

From full I usually get 50 miles to the first quarter.

121 to half and...

200 to three quarters.

However, this week, I have been doing more motorway and dual carridge way journeys and managed to get 136 to half way and I am waiting to see what I get to three quarters.

Moral of this story? Do your journeys by motorway or dual carridge way.

;)

I have a N/A Import and on mine there is definatly a noticable difference running on Optimax !

When I went to Scotland in my Z this summer, it managed 200 miles by the time it reached half way. I only managed another 140 until the needle was just touching the E.

Stuart

Jeez, I dont get near those mileages!

Actually I just recorded it, I got 350km from 50 litres (optimax...) - whats that in mpg...? Hmm a touch under 20mpg, in the rain, with HOLD on all week...thats crap :(

Thanks for that.

My needle drops too quickly all the time!

Thats fast or slow!

I do Folkestone to Torquay 270 miles on a tank no light on!

LOL

Start / stop or even speed up / slow down driving bad for fuel economy...

Surprising how little you need to move the throttle or use the brakes in town if you leave plenty of space ahead and anticipate, and even more surprising the difference it makes to economy.

Example: lights on green, next set still on red; just go forward at 20mph. The second set will change by the time you get there. Lots of people just boot it off all lights as soon as they are on green and then have to brake for the next set. I can usually get all the way from one side of Bolton to the other without touching brakes, but it is a bit of a black art...

Same on motorway, if you find you're driving at 75, speeding up to 90, braking to 75 for next car... then don't. Just drive at 80 in a steady fashion - you'll cover the distance just as quickly.

This doesn't apply when you're in "road kill" mode of course. :-)

I aim for 150 by half way and 270+ for empty with the light coming on. On one occasion of all motorway work with no holdups doing 60-90 depending on traffic I achieved 200 by half way !

Yeah - 600kms to Luton and back home on one tank full of juice. Was empty when I got back but no light on.

I get mega mileage when I'm on the motorway - normal to work and back is 360 - 400 kms for a tank.
