The head of Wales police was on TV a few days ago. Wales catches twice as many people speeding than anywhere else in the country. All he kept saying is 3400 people die on the roads every year, bla bla bla bla.

However, NO-ONE has actually asked him, out of the 3400 people who have died on the road, how many purely because some one was speeding? I have seen some stats and it is less than 2%. The highest reason is not looking/paying attention. Then is was people not judging speeds and distances correctly.

He says speed cameras make the roads safer, but they dont catch people driving 2 inches from the back of your car on the motorway, or people pulling out on you without indicating. Or people darting accross lanes or weaving in and out of traffic. I think that is more dangerous.

Wonder how many more shunt accidents occur in these places due to people slamming on when they spot the camera.

A guy here in nuneaton has just been convicted of criminal damage, cos he got busted by one of the new ones put on the A5, he went back and chopped its head off with a chainsaw!!!

Dont get me wrong, i hate speed cameras, but id rather they took out every single speed bump, chicane and mini traffic calming island and replaced them all with cameras.

I probably have to go over about 30 of these on the way to work and the hold ups I cause to traffic is embarassing, zeds and speed bumps dont mix none too well!!!

Too true. They have installed some down my road but the council have failed to install any signs and paint any marking on the things. So you can imagine the kind of fun everybody has at night... They have been down three months now.

I don't have a problem with them in towns, it's on the open roads where they are a problem.

Mike

Speaking of Wales - after the fiasco of specially targetting the rally people the FIA have put the rally under investigation and may remove it because of what they have done. Idiots.

We've just had the speed limits near us changed - they used to be 50 mph to 40mph to 60mph within the space of 1 mile.

Now its 50mph 30 mph 40 mph 60 mph. for the same stretch - needless to say people are ignoring them and driving up the bumpers and overtaking people following the new limits....

Clarkey and myself are going out gatzo bashing this weekend. I agree, than they r ok in towns, but the open road camera take the P155 ! Especially when you have roads like the on in telford, humbers, which is wider than a motorway lane, as staright, no houses either side, and is on the outskirts of the town, with 30 signs plastered everywhere. Neways, how does an inveter, my car, angle grinder and a balaclava sound? :D

If you want speed camera in towns, look at Blackburn. I know of 3 on 1 peice of road, all are near the bottom steep hills. I also see a police car parked up just over the brow of a hill catching people coming over it. Next time I think I will park right infront of the police car and put the bonnet up and say I have a problem. ;) Cant stop me :D

Yeah, I live in North Wales & the police had a 30% increase in budget paid for out of Council Tax funds last year.

Almost every day there's a b@stard hiding up someone's driveway with their cameras in my village. I get sick of seeing people being pulled over & done, it makes my blood boil!

In Caernarfon which is 5 miles from me, there were 5 coppers waiting around, 1 had a camera and the other 4 were sat in two cop cars waiting to give chase. I mean, WTF! There's so much crime in Caernarfon at the moment, gangs of lads and girls going around terrorising local people, hitting people over the heads with bags full of pool balls, yet nothing is ever done about it, it's still going on. I get the impression that a lot of the Police are just out for an easy ride. They want the power, status, but don't want any trouble   Well, my answer is that they shouldn't have taken the job on if they're scared of trouble!

The cameras shown in Preston on the dual carraigeway with the wires hangin out only last 1 week before they were "removed" by someone!! What a shame!! And the sad thing is they have been like that ever since, which must be nearly 3 years no!!!!

Ho Hum :D :D :D

Would that be the dual carriage way that runs parallel to St. Edmund Campion's old playing field?!

No its a Principality actually ;)

I dont usually air issues with this sort of thing but traffic police/cameras/camera operators are complete tossers  and I'll be voting for the next party who vows to cut them down.

But only out of interest of course, how do you get a tyre burning really well, and quickly. Is there something that can be spread on it to keep the temp up and the tyre burning until it gets going????

just got me a road angel its fookin brill spots all the gatsos and fixed speed cameras road works cameras and specs. also spots radars and warns of accident blackspots. not cheap £400 but worth every penny also easy to update from internet. it even gives you your coordinates to give to emergency services if you break down or spot an accident:)

Bet the one that's been covered up doesn't have "serious damage" at all... I bet it says something in big letters, like, erm... "Down with the Chief Constable" ;-)
