Unfortunately I think it is a hoax, as Earth (the grand experiment to find the answer [42]) was demonished to make way for a Galatic Super-Highway when Ford Prefects were on the road.

The rumours concerning the Earths demise have been greatly exaggerated. Mass hallucination and hysteria were blamed and the CIA stalwartly denied any involvement. Which as any right-minded person knows is a sure fire sign that they were in it up to their necks...However, no-one quite got round to explaining what happened to the Dolphins...(who are far better at making intricately etched glassware than people know). Just another puzzle for those of us who live Inside The Asylum;)
