Thought I could win at the insurance game for once, but proved wrong. Someone on this forum was warning me about Privilege and I should have listened.

Phoned them up for a quote on my 1989 import 300 TT. As it wasn't on their books they quoted me a price for a 300 single turbo and said that would be the price they would give, even though its a different car. Great, I thought, £530 bargain. So I send off my NCD proof etc. Then things start to go bad.

Firstly they lose my original NCD documents, though they definitely received them.

Secondly now (two weeks later and a different salesperson) they reckon my car is not covered and my premium will increase by £300, which will be waived if I fit a Tracker (these must cost about £500 to fit, complete).

So all in all I'm well pissed off. I've just changed over to Norwich Union Direct, but I got well messed about by Privilege and I can only advise other members to steer clear of them. They just told me what I wanted to hear to get a policy, then they changed their tune and I've lost original documents showing 12 years of NCD into the bargain.

Paul,

You say you've moved to Norwich Union Direct - what sort of quote did they give you?

Tim

They were fine with me, but there again I've never had to claim.

Did they lose the docs or was it the post office ? I would ALWAYS send something as valuable as that registered. You're previous company should be able to be persuaded to send a copy of the no claims, insurance companies nearly always verify against each others records anyway.

Ooops just realised that I got Admiral and Priviledge mixed up. Ignore that last ramble.

Norwich Union quoted me £604, which is pretty good, though I am a bit on the ancient side (39).

I sent various docs to Privilege, including proof of a cat 1 alarm, all in the same envelope. I got the cat. 1 alarm proof back, which is how I know they did receive all the NCD docs as well, so they weren't lost in the post. They're probably on the floor somewhere at Privilege, or maybe they sent them back to someone else.

Probably as your Z is a 1989 model, Privelege thought the single turbo insurance covered that year.

As for losing your documents and messing with premiums and trackers etc, I agree with you but I'm with Privelege aswell without any problems to date.

Thats really strange. When I bought my import Z TT, Privilige gave me the best quote out of all of them. They sorted me out from start to finish with no problems!! Oh well, some of us are lucky!!

I think you're right Chris, from talking to people at work it seems almost random whether they have good or bad experiences with a company and get good or bad quotes.

Privilege and me just weren't meant to go together.

I was with the Privilige last year, but their quote for this year went up £100. (Since they're now underwritten by Direct Line). They wanted £1300 instead of £1200 which I paid the year before.

So, I checked out (dont laugh) Tescos insurance - they wanted £900 and I thought excellent! BUT...check out http://www.elephant.co.uk/ they offered me £700 for a years cover (or 10 month excellerator), which I took! Not bad considering the variables: 25 years old, 2 years NCB and one claim in the last 3 years.

Thats £500 cheaper than last year - smile.gif

Paul - I think it was probably me that warned you against Priveledge in the first place. They did exactly the same with me; insured my 90 NA Z as a 89 non turbo. A year later they tell me the insurance has been invalid.

Just got my renewal letter from A-plan (AXA) - £535. Cool.
