NZR- Sierra fuel gauge sender unit

Ford's in their wisdom decided to put the fuel gauge sender and the fuel pump in one unit and my gauge isn't working. They want just under £250 for the unit but I was wondering what exactly can go wrony with the float? Can it just be cleaned up?

    I would suggest a scrap yard - must be hundreds of them available...

    can you not get the sender seperatly tho?? the merc all in one units we use can be purchased as a seperate item.

     

    its probable the contacts on the variable resistor either poor contact or the windings broken.

     

    may be worth a clean - the laquor in the petrol can coat the surfaces & give inacurrate/no readings

    Cheers guys. Nah, Fords don't sell the sender on it's own :(

     

    I'll try cleaning it and if not I'll get down the scrap yard.
