My German wife has suddenly got it into here head that she is some kind of traitor to her fatherlannd unless she starts to drive a Merc Estate. I've been thinking that a C class say 4 to 5 years old would not break the banks balance so does anyone here have any idea of the pitfalls?

It's German not Jap :D

HKS do a full range of tuning goodies. :)

You'll be fine. :)

Any one read the servey about the most reliable cars now?

At the top was Mazda. The highest none Japanese car manufacturer was Ford in 5th and then the rest Japanese until Merc about 11th place.

Go for a Jap car, cos the Germans and Japs are always on the same wave-lenght and side ;)

Boom boom tish!

Terrible joke :(

Good old Jeremy Clarkson SLAGGED OFF the reliability of Mercs the other week on Top Gear. Apparently his SL55 AMG (that he sold his Ferrari for) has spent more time at the Merc dealer, and each time it comes back more broken than when he left it!

merc reliability really is very poor, I wouldnt accept one if given to me!

Brabus Brabus Brabus

I love them soooooo much

Shit man im drooling here

Go for the Brabus

Allow the bmw (batty mans willy)

Its so common

:D

Audi A6S Estate:) chap was with us guys at Santa Pod,cant remember his name, was in wheel chair, had owned a couple of 300's in past, think i met him at Billing, anyway, followed him up A45 to M1 from the Pod,was in wifes 200sx with kids so could not ras it to much, remember him pulling of at a junction and thinking "Thats fookin awsome quick::eek: then my lad says,"there the quickest estates in the world dad" i did'nt argue with that:D me thinks it may give a Z a run for its money;) I would have one:cool:

My wife has a VW Jetta 1.8T. Has needed nothing for the first 20k miles and I expect it to continue that way. The 180 HP low boost can be increased if you want. Handles as well with the sport suspension and 17s as any 3 series I have driven, is as fast as a 328 and costs 2/3rds as much.

I prefer the slitty bit not to be the eyes

On a serious note Paul, is there anything to look out for with C class estates. Has to be an estate because we have to fit 3 German Shepherds (bit of a German theme going on here) in the back

what sort of age/model you looking for?

Probably something abot 5 years or older to keep the bank manager happy.

Engine size should probably be at least a 2.2 so she is not slower than the Honda that she is replacing, but the more HP the merrier :)

Petrol prefered to diesel, as much for pyschological resons.

Must have a decent level of trim since we like our comforts and she will regularly be used for 1000+ mile journeys

A Merc doesn't sound like the sort of car you need then eh!?!? Go for one of those Subaru Forresters. Large estate, apparently the safest car on the ROAD for kids/pets in the back, and it's basically STi Turbo engine and running gear:D Sounds like a practical car that's also a giggle!

Actually it's the RS6 which is the 480BHP 4x4 mother Fooker, but that really is the quickest estate.

C240 is prob a good one to look out for then, 2.4 V6, which is a nice engine in these cars,

you could also get a 4 cyl one in 1.8, 2.0, 2.3 & 2.3kompressor (supercharged)

1.8 is very underpowered, C200 is bareable!

oil leaks can be a problem on 4 cyl engines from the headgaskets, if its only from the front of the head then they can sometimes just be tightened down. V6 engines dont suffer from this.

they eat brake pads & disks

steering dampers leak as do rear diff seals

air mass sensors are a little problematic

brake light swiches can put the ESP light on

keys can go down, as can the EIS (ign switch)

make sure its got FSH & all the additional items have been done at the correct times

a B service with all the additional items can be costly, esp with the V6 - 12 plugs at £6.32 ea + 2 hrs labour to do!!

let me know if you want any more info :)

now THIS is the quickest estate car in the world!

With the EV12 6.3 litre V12 Bi-Turbo engine the EV12 Estate becomes the fastest estate car in the world! Developing 640bhp and 1029Nm (762lb.ft) this car accelerates from 0-60mph in 4.0 seconds, to 125mph in 12.9 seconds and to a maximum of 212mph!

Many thanks Paul
