Hi, I have another MR2 question for you lot who have owned or driven them in the past. I know I should just post this on the MR2 forum but they are all useless and you guys seem alot more helpful. Its for sale anyway, Zed on its way so not a complete traitor!

Anyway, to the point,

I have a guy coming round to look at my car tomorrow for a second veiwing and has mentioned that he thought the gearbox was "notchy". It has always been like this and i have had it 3 years and nothing has gone wrong with the box. I assumed that MR2 turbo's gearboxes are just notchy as a characteristic .

Am I wrong and will I have to chop loads of money off cos of a dodgy box?

Cheers guys,

Justin.

People will always want to 'find' faults to knock down the price, or appear like they are experts. I don't know anything about MR2 gearboxes though. But does he either?

If he's having a second look, he's intrested, dont let him blag you, and dont take no bull. He's just trying to frighten you, blag him back with some guff about it being a sports car, and gearchange is direct, If it's not direct then the gearbox is faulty because there is too much slack in it

LOL, good point. I have already let him talk me down to a bargain price so that's his lot take it or leave it!

Cheers Rich,

Justin:)

The guy who was interested in the NA I eventually bought was bullshitting on to the salesman about the road noise sounding like wheel bearings. Even to an idiot like me it was obvious it wasn't, it was road noise off the ancient tyres. I still got a deal I was happy with without blagging crap, and both the salesman and me thought the old guy was just a tit for trying it on.

Mr2 boxes are quite notchy compared to zed boxes, as long as there is no noise or excessive play in the box then he has nothing to complain about,

Having consulted my expert here, MkI & MkII boxes are notchy. try changing the oil, failing that live with it !
