Had a thought after our meeting about your water loss /overheating. I noticed when we were talking and you switched off the WARM engine the cooling fan kept spinning for a fair while. Now I remember the same on a friends car a sierra I think the viscous fan was stuffed and was not providing cooling at low speeds and hence water loss via the rad cap expansion.Might be the same worth checking your fan when the engine is hot the fan should be relatively hard to turn by hand and like wise easy when cold.
Oh by the way there is a couple of centre console lids available in a breaker 2 miles from you in the right colour and good condition. Can mail you details if u want Jeff TT
