Spoke to warranty company this morning and they said;

1. The oldest car on their books is 1987, they have no problem in covering as far back as 1989 for our cars.

2. Covering high mileage cars is no problem, I said some can be as high as 130,000, no problem he said.

3. A combination of 1989 and 130,000 miles is not a problem for cover.

4. The only things that are not covered are 'servicable items' such as tyres, wiper blades, brakes, filters, belts.

5. Everything else is covered, and he means everything.

6. The claim limit is decided by the value of your car, i.e. your car is worth £5,000 then that's your claim limit.

7. Servicing is a must, but saying that who doesn't service their Z's as they should do! (mines every 3000)

I'll have all the paperwork by Tuesday/Wednesday and will post it up here then you can decide if you wish to take up the option on these warranties.

Cheers,

Matty.

Top banana - can't wait to see details.

Cheers - Gio

What about cars with 167,000 miles ;)

Thats good. Obviously things like wipers and tyres are not covered by the warranty.

With the servicing, I change my oil every 3000 miles but the book says every 5000-6000 miles. So every other oil change you take it to a garage. You buy the oil and filter and they cant charge more than £20 do to it for you.

Sounding good. Any idea of approximate costs?

Somewhere between £300 and £400 for 12 months I reckon but it could be less.

Matty.

That sounds good, i'll be very interested.

Cheers Rich

Servicing MUST be carried out by a VAT registered garage. So that rules out us DIY types.

Also check the small print very carefully, it might say something along the lines of 'there must be 3 months MOT remaining at the time of claim' that means MOTs every 9 months.

I've looked into this and Warrenty Wise in particular.

Good luck though, this is an excellent idea IMHO. If you could just get them to quotre less than £650 for my TVR I'd be very happy.

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone had more info on what was happening with these warranties as I am very interested in one.

Cheers,

Justin:)

I'll second that.

Chaps!!

Update time................

The warranty price is £395 for 12 months cover with 3 months free.

The warranties are through Warranty Holdings, the 'Gold' option that they offer.

Things not covered are;

Cracked cylinder heads and/or failure to valves as a result of carbon build up. Body, paint, glass, interior/exterior trim, ICE or communication systems and connected equipment, catalytic converters, wheels, air bag and system.

Normal 'wear and tear/sevice' items or other components subject to routine maintenance, i.e. plugs, belts, hoses, light bulbs, wiper blades, rubbers, tyres, batteries and exhaust systems.

What is covered;

This policy covers all mechanical and electrical parts including labour to fit them (in a nutshell everything not mentioned above!)

Plus;

Oil seals - Cranckshaft front seal, camshaft oil seal, auxiliary shaft oil seal, differential pinion seal and any other seal or gasket where removal of the engine, gearbox or differential/drive unit is essential in order to effect repair.

Casings - If any of the covered parts fail and this damages the casings, they will also be covered.

Working materials - Oils, oil filter and anti-freeze are covered only if it is essential to replace them beciuase of the failure of a part which is covered under this policy.

Claims limit is the purchase price of the car being covered, i.e. you paid £5k you claims limit is £5k.

Extra benefits;

Vehicle replacement WH pay upto £30 per day (inc VAT) for upto 7 days towards the cost of a replacment vehicle if your vehicle is being repaired under the conditions of the policy.

Recovery;

WH will pay upto £30 (inc VAT) towards the cost of towing your vehicle to the nearest repairer if the vehicle breaks down.

Overnight accommodation and rail fares;

WH will pay upto £60 towards hotel expenses or a return rail ticket if the vehicle brakes down and you are unable to return home. You cannot claim for the cost of food and drinks.

Driving abroad;

The policy is valid for upto 60 days per annum (pro rata) for driving in Ireland and mainland Europe, WH will not pay more than the equivalent UK cost for parts and labour.

Service standards;

The vehicle must be serviced at a VAT registered garage, 6 months or 6,000 miles (whichever is sooner) from the date of or milage at purchase, and thewreafter at intervals of 6 months or 6,000 miles (whichever is sooner) and must consist of:

1. Change engine oil and filter.

2. Check oil levels in the gearbox and differential and top up where necassary.

3. Check coolant level and anti-freeze/inhibitor strength. Top up where necessary.

4. Check timing belt (if fitted), renew if necessary.

5. Brake fluid must be replaced in accourdance with manufacturers recommendation.

The interval from the purcahse date to the first service and the intervals between services must not exceed the stipulated time or mileage by more than 21 days or 500 miles. This time allowance is to facilitate the vehicle owner to make sure services are completed at the correct intervals. If any circumstances prevent the service being carried out at the correct time WH must be informed immediatly by recorded delivery.

Garages;

You can go to one of Warranty Holdings recommended VAT registered garages to have work carried out but you can also suggest a garage to them (I wrote that section, can't you tell!! :D )

Now the downside...........

Exceptions;

If you don't claim within 14 days of fault happening, it's not covered!

The policy is not covering;

Vehicles used in timed competition or race; or non-standard, customised or modified vehicles (stock spec only then fella's, i'll double check that though!)

No liability for damaged caused by;

Neglect

Corrosion

Any foreign matter getting into or onto a part

Lack of servicing

Effects of over heating, wether caused by an insured part or not.

Freezing

Abuse

No liabilty will be accepted for;

Poor repairs

Incorrectly fitted parts

Faulty parts

Parts not fitted as standard or optional extra fitted by manufacturer.

And that's about it boys and girls.

I've taken a warranty out I think it's worth the money but that's my opinion.

If your interested mail me on mattylloyd63@hotmail.com and I'll sort you out.

Matty.
