As some of you may know i'm buying Keith s's Zed.

The trouble is i've not had an insurance quote that i'm that impressed by.

Can anybody reccomend any companies.

It will be insured as a classic car and as a second car.

I've tried Firebond, Lancaster and Adrian flux of which flux was the cheapest.

My problem is that i was banned in 2001 for peeing around on a motorbike, and also have a SP30, which is'nt the prob.

I understand the car is of a high group, but don't get me wrong when i say this, my Ducati 996SPS (RIP) group 17 of 17 cost me £570 Fully comp and would pee all over the nissan (stock tt, before i get lots of nasty replies).

Im 29 years old, own my own house, the car will be garaged, it's got a cat 1 alarm/immob, 5000 miles per annum, Standard.

And it's not that i drive like an arse.

So before i need to decorate my living room with some sort of padded effect, somebody please help me

Praying for cheap insurance:bow:

A slightly cheesed off Rich.:)

I hate shopping for insurance

When I first got my Z I got quotes from £2.5k to £4k  Purely because I hadn't driven long and low NCB

Tescos was cheapest for me when I last renewed - they've started doing imports now :)

Theres a list of insurers on AndyP's site http://www.300zx.org.uk , theres a few companies I've heard which are good with the zed - try a search. Also try the back pages of Jap Performance or Banzai.

If you can get the car on a classic car policy, second car policy, or both the cost drops drastically. Some insurers want you to be over 25, some over 30 sadly I am neither :( ;) Tho why the fook your age dictates whether your car is of classic status I'll never know

Pete

http://www.firebond.co.uk

The only insure UK Z's and they used to insure the Z your buying, so all the details should be on file!!

Go on to the site and get a quote, then still give them a ring as it gets cheaper when you call them.....

I pay £257 with them at the moment, £150 excess that I took insurance out on at £25 so it means I don't have to pay excess!!

6000 miles or less for the classic policy!! ;)

Give them a try!

Matty.

Pete,

Thanks mate, i'll have a good ring round all of them.:D

Matty,

I have already had a quote off firebond and i don't think they liked my ban very much.:slap:

Chhers guys

TBH I don't think any insurers will!!

Happy hunting mate.

Matty.

If it's a standard vehicle then try Carole Nash's classic policy, modded and or an import try A-Plan.

I think a lot of people on here may be happily ignoring the fact that they aren't actually insured for the car they're driving - it's fine if you want to show the law that you're insured but a useless piece of paper if you want to make a claim. Insurance companies don't like paying out if they can find a reason not to...

To clarify, I pay

Cheers!

I got a quote for 1158 on an Rx7 with Sureterm about two months ago... considering i am only 21 i didnt think that was too bad

their website is http://www.sureterm.com

worth giving em a try

Geez how many times has this subject come up. Not suprissing though really.

Maybe there should be a separate forum just for insurance :D

Norton was the cheapest by far on a classic policy - 0121-246 6060

Thanks for all the links/numbers guys, but still way out in front is Adrian Flux, he must like crazy bikers.:D :D :D

So far the worst quote i've had was £11'546 and i ain't joking,

i needed to clean my monitor when that price came on it as the half gallon of coffee i had in my mouth hit the monitor at a fair rate of knots.

How bl***y much ????????????????

And there ad quoted "competive prices":D

Another to try is the INSURANCE WAREHOUSE, their based in Birmingham, 01216226006

Geoff.

One NOT to try is "Quote me happy" Norwich Union, wanted me to pay £1900 at 26 with 5 years NCB, when i queried it they said I was right there was a mistake, they wont insure me at all!!!

So I went to direct line £850 fully comp.

Insurance seems to be the bane of my Z hunting...

Still being 21 and having no NCB probably doesnt help :D

best quote so far (which i am seriously considering) is about 2k and thats on a UK model.. dont even wanna ask them what they would want off me for an import!

Matt P

Matt,

If i ring any more insurance companies i'll either be sacked or my phone bill will be as costly as the insurance, the only bit of advice i can give is get a price fixed in you head of what you expect to pay (not what you want to pay) and if your getting near to it take it.

Rich:D

to be honest i want a Z so bad now i would probably pay anything for insurance... went to see one the other day was a Gunmetal grey one (my Favourite colour for Z's) the trader took me for a spin.. and WOW! one minute we were doing 40 on the slip road onto the A41 then next time i looked we were doing 120 up a hill :D wasnt too sure bout that one though didnt push me back in my seat as much as i had expected.... still they are big cars so i suppose you dont notice it as much.

I really need to find a company that will give me something like classic policy with my Z as my only car (plus i need business use) so elephants quote of 2k at the moment is starting to look appealing!!

Matt P

There are a few companies out there that do classic only policies but i dont think thay'll cover for buisness use (but i have been wrong before).

Try http://www.Adrianflux.co.uk or call 08700777888

and The Insurance warehouse 01216226006 as Tanzx said earlier in the thread.

Best of luck.

Rich

I'm doing the ring around this afternoon.

Gave Norton a ring, they didn't ask me anything but my address, age (30), basic car spec, and how many miles I'd do.

They quoted over 500 quid, and that's before I told them about the accident (!) and my wifes heinous speeding offenses.

Firebond much cheaper at £370 for 6000 miles per year. And they quoted me £370 TPFT for my daily driver Rover 820SLi for 10000 miles per year. Although the Rover is far more dangerous to drive. Ever tried cornering in one?!?!?

Just phoned quoteline direct, my current insurer, and that's only £215 for the Rover

That's both insured for 600 quid!

Last year was 1200 pounds just for the Zed!

Rich,

Don't spend too much time expecting to get a reasonable quote, your ban in 2001 will ensure you pay well over the odds for some time yet!!!

A friend of mine is an insurance broker (although he was no good for me with the zed!!) and he often gets asked to quote for people who have previosly been banned, he told me the companies concerned just dont like what they percieve as a higher risk, so double or triple the usual amount is usually quoted!!

Paul N

Best quote i've had is on a classic policy, 5000miles limited @ £769 as said in other replies some quotes have just been stupid. I have now given up on getting a cheaper quote so Mr Flux will be £769 better off as soon as i know when i'm picking the Zed up.

A not so cheesed off Rich.:D :D :D
