Well that worked out very nicely! Have sold my Zed, but the happy purchaser turns out to be my flatmate!

He's just sold his Cerbera and has been driving my Zed for a bit and realised what a great car it is! All I need to do now is persuade him to fork out for all those mods i'd love to do to it.... I reckon a few grand thrown in PPS's direction would be a good starting point...

Have also got my new car too. :D Picked it up last Tuesday but had it parked up since then as it's going in to get a straight through exhaust stuck on it this week. At the moment it's FAR TOO QUIET!

I reckon it should sound great with the new pipes... because after all.. it is a 5.7 litre V8 Corvette!

Got it from near Manchester and when I drove through town (admittedly lost and probably using more revs than neccessary trying to get used to it) the on-board computer told me I was doing 3.6 mpg!

It does about 30 mpg on the motorway though....

Anyway, it's a 1998 black C5 targa coupe - so if you get someone in a Vette flashing their lights at you in your Zed, don't worry - just wave back...

The only things I want to do to it at the moment is get some new alloys (the standard ones are fairly average), decat and the exhaust (which apparently is going to make my ears bleed :D ), a chip and air filter. Should take me to a genuine 400bhp (crank) and suitably worry the traction control.

And when i'm back in Newcastle on the weekends I can still borrow the Zed! :D :D

Cool - do it - they're great! Although I still love Zed's!

A few facts about the Corvette:

1) Are all LHD - never produced anything else

2) They were sold in the UK through special dealers for a very limited time - were very unsuccessful over here as they really are a bit different

3) All are 5.7 Litre

4) 99% of them are automatics - took me a while to find a manual

5) 3 Basic choices of C5 - coupe (with removable hard top / glass roof panel), convertible, Z06 - special top of the range thing - hard top, flat back - no roof panels - more power, bigger brakes etc.

6)By far the majority are red - mine's black and I think all the better for it

7) they have got EVERY gadget going - from head up display to passive memorized unlocking, memory seats, twin zone climate, tyre pressure monitors, oil life monitors, the list goes on....

I think it's great to drive. Only driven it a couple of times so far but its been a blast. HUGE amounts of torque mean you just don't need to rev it. Even on its stiffest suspension setting it's more wallowy than a Zed but you don't fling them around like that. Just point, squirt and watch everything reverse towards you! Round town it's not too bad even though it's LHD - nice light steering and the auto's particulary are a doddle.

It'll cruise at 95 in 6th (manual - auto is a 4 speed) at just 2,000 rpm. That's when you get reasonable mpg.

I think it's awesome to look at - especially the back with four chrome pipes and the round red lights. Standard they're very quiet but it doesn't cost too much to wake up the beast with a new exhaust.

Very different to a european/jap car - but that makes it more fun IMHO. Might consider stiffening it up at some point but for now i'm just happy to be rumbling about (when my exhaust gets fitted), smoking it through the gears and posing!
