Potential Insurance Deal for Club Members, We Need your Help!

Hi Guys,

I am in talks with an insurance company regarding a special insurance deal for club members only (SO JOIN:D )!

I can't promise anything but if we don't ask we won't get, in the past this company has given very competitive quotes for our cars and hopefully now they will be even better!

To progress further the insurance company has to have details of the whole of your insurance policy, so that they can assess who the typical 300zx owner is and what package has been offered to you and at what price?

He says he has to have a minimum of fifteen policy documents to make this assessment and then he can come back with a package!

So guys I need you to scan your insurance documents and send them to me at mhanley@btinternet.com , I promise this information will only be relayed between myself and the insurance company.

Get Scanning!!!!!!

Haven't got a scanner but tell me what details you want?

I think a few more people might reply with their details this way, unless you require addresses of course.

Hi James,

Thanks, the alternative is to send me a photocopy, I will collect the photocopies and forward them to the insurance guy!

The guy needs the polcies in full as they will unravel the fine details and assess what niche of the market we occupy!

Hi Mark,

Would it be a good idea to make up a form with all the details he/she needs that we could fill in and email to you?

Vijay

I was thinking that, but they need the actual policies to review what is being offered by insurance firms, e.g. guaranteed value, windscreen cover, restricted mileage etc. and all the finer points maybe?

I have my Zed on a traders policy with my Calibra turbo and it costs £1500 a year. The other alternative was tesco at £1350 + a tracker fitted to the car, but the current company are kicking up a fuss as they are both high perfomance coupe's. So if a deal can be struck for good cover for less then I'd be up for it. I don't have the full policy yet but when I do i'll send a copy, if it's relevant...

In the meantime if anyone can recommend a good ins' company who give decent quotes then i'd appreciate some contact info 'cos I'm selling the calibra anyway...

Cheers!!:)

Will post mine to you Mark.

Do you know the time scale of coming up with a proposal once he's got the 15?

  • Author

Cheers Guys, haven't got a time scale for this yet, but the sooner I can get all 15 documents to them the sooner I can chase them up!

I would like to help, but as I'm insured with the Us military I don't think my documents would benefit him.

I'm covered for unlimited modifications and if the car is stolen I get the base price back for the car + any extras I have added to it.

I don't think any UK insurance company can better that, but sadly by this time next year I will be looking elsewhere for insurance as Cerina is leaving the US Military to join another UK company which will remain unnamed at this time :D ;).

So how much would you get for the Missile Launcher and can the oriental guy claim damages for being ejected out of the passenger seat?:D

C'mon guys we need your policies!

Here is an email from the company, by the way it is AON, I received it today, please put all communications through me as this has been requested by the person I am dealing with?

Insurance has to be one of the most costly things in running a Z,

and now we have a chance to remedy this!

Hello Mr. Hanley,

As promised I confirm our company's interest in learning more about your

club, so that we might assess its insurance requirements and whether we can

offer something beneficial to your members.

We currently work fairly closely with many major UK car owners and driving

clubs and find these relationships mutually beneficial for all parties

involved. So we can try and piece some sort of offering together you might remember I said it would be useful to examine 15-20 existing policies. To this end, I would be most grateful if you could forward some examples from your existing members, including policy wording, schedules and premiums paid.

As soon as I have these I will pass them on to our underwriters for

examination.

If you need to speak to me or have any questions I can be contacted on, or at this email address.

Mark, just digging mine out.

Are you and Anita not working together on this one? She has posted up today about ins. co.'s.

Did she I though she posted up about AA cover ?

Hi Mark,

You might ask the AON chappy about the exclusion on their policy which says "please note that the section in the policy booklet on page 5 relating to priority repairs, own repair shops and loan cars does not apply to any grey imports."

So grey imports don't get access to the approved network, you don't get immediate authority to start repairs, it isn't collected and returned and you don't get a loan car.

Of course, you only find this out after they have sent you the policy documents.

Given the number of grey imports in the Club......

Also, AON swear blind they are not insurers, just brokers. At least that 's what the people who answer the phone say.

Cheers - Gio

Gio,

I cannot comment on existing policies, but if that is an area you would like me to address with Aon then I will!

The thing is with most insurance companies is that there is usually some small print somewhere that you only discover when you need it!

Here is a chance to take a positive attitude to this offer and try and work with them sorting out small print like this! Which is probably the reason they need to examine documents to get some sort of gauge of what policies people want/have!

I did talk with the representative about import 'loading' and explained to him that because of the contacts and knowledge in the Club we can get parts/cars repaired usually quicker than main dealers! He gave positive feedback about this and said this should not pose as an issue with the club deal!

Gio is there a problem with Aon being brokers and not insurers?

IIRC mine is with Lifesure which is underwritten by AON, so there's not much point in you sending them their own policy is there ?

Dunno mate,

I can aways supply them with the policy numbers and they can look them up if they want!

AndyP - why not pm Topless your policy number? That way his bloke can get the details he needs but we don't have to post anyhing in public (or send docs).

Mark - two basic points, I guess. If we have mainly grey imports, the "better" overall gain would be to get the same benefit level as UK. So now is (as you say) a good time to address it which is why I raised it :)

They gave the excuse - as did some of the bodyshops - that they won't give these benefits to grey imports because you can't get the parts except from Japan and that takes 2 to 3 months. This was while I was holding in my hand a parts list from MJP which gave every part except 2 as next day UK stock (and 1 from Amsterdam 1 wk and 1 from Japan 3 wks). But even though their excuse is bull, you still can't get the benefits.

So I have to hire a car for 3 weeks which isn't covered by their insurance. Not cheap.

As for the insurers / not insurers question - I just don't know the answer to that. They only just started telling me they weren't insurers, just brokers about an hour ago.

They and Lifesure were notified about my accident last week on Thursday. They still haven't got the insurance details from the other party. I asked why not and they said we've only just sent the file to the insurers. I said but you're the insurer and they said no we're not, we're just the brokers.

Given that the Policy Booklet is titled "Aon Classic Collectors Everyday Car Policy" and the inside cover starts off with a Customer service pledge of "We are Royal & Sun Alliance's Aon Classic Car Team" I am now very suspicious about what they are claiming to me. And why they are making such a fuss about not being an insurer is baffling. If I can find out more, I will let you know.

There is also a difference of opinion between what Lifesure (the brokers who got me the policy) and Aon are saying on another matter.

This bull factor makes me suspicious and cynical - someone is either lying or being economical with the truth and I can't work out why. What's the catch?

Don't get me wrong - if you've managed to get someone from Aon interested in doing a deal, full kudos and go for it. Especially if they stop discriminating against greys.

The price on the policy was very good and I shall certainly be getting Lifesure / AON to re-quote on renewal.

Cheers - Gio

I'm currently insured with AON through the Insurance Factory. It's an "Aon Classic Collectors Everyday Car Policy", and it's a Royal & Sun Alliance policy, so in my case AON are acting as a broker.

I can't see any exclusions relating to grey imports on it either.

Mark, I've PM'd you my policy number.

Dave - the exclusions weren't in the policy booklet. They were on the Policy Schedule on the third page after all the policy endorsements and excesses lists in a section headed "Priority Repairers" (clearly on display in a dark cellar in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying Beware of the Leopard. )

As far as this broker thing is, I am still baffled. I would have thought Lifesure/Insurance Factory were the brokers, AON were the insurers but what do I know?

The Aon policy booklet says (on p15 Policy Definitions)

We, us, our Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance plc
and (on p1 Welcome to Royal & SunAlliance Insurance)
We are Royal & SunAlliance's Aon Classic Car Team
which seems pretty clear to me. Why they are claiming they aren't is what is baffling me! :)

I will relay your concerns to them!

To be truthful I don't care whether they are brokers or insurers, if they give us a good deal then great, sounds like they need to clear up their literature!

Like I said I talked to their representative about loading/discriminating against grey imports and he gave me very positive feedback. Since probably 60% of the club own imports, I will emphasise the necessity to put them on a par with the UK cars!

Gio every incident I have have had with an insurance company has always given rise to some small print clause, so try not to let recent events get to you!

Hmm. Well if I ever had that, I don't now! :(

I would have thought that Lifesure/Insurance Factory were brokers, AON were brokers with a special deal with Royal & Sun Alliance, and Royal & Sun Alliance were the insurers. Maybe AON are the insurers and Royal & Sun Alliance are the underwriters! Who knows?

My previous 'insurers' were Adrian Flux and that policy was with Royal & Sun Alliance too! Has anyone got a policy on an import that *isn't* underwritten by Royal & Sun Alliance?

Mark - yes you're right. If they're going to give greys the same cover as UK, that's great.

I have no idea about this broker / insurer thing - it was just something they made a big fuss about for a reason I don't understand. It seemed to be an excuse for being slow. My accident was Wednesday a week ago (10 days) and they still haven't got the other bloke's insurance, or an admission of liability or approved an estimate.

Dave - are you saying that your policy schedule and policy booklet do NOT have the grey import exclusions that mine has? If so, I shall have to look into this further...

Cheers - Gio

No, I'm saying that my policy booklet doesn't have the exclusions and that I don't *think* I had a policy schedule sent with it. If I did, I can't find it, and I see no reason why I would have separated the two!
