engine out

Looks like my lump is coming out for the turbos to be rebiult, the garage are paying thank god. Looks like theyll be going to AR turbos which i picked up from an earlier thread.

The garage have told me that while the lump is out i can play with it. Seems an ideal oportunity, any suggestions to what i should replace while its out and where i can source the parts from.

Comes up quite often, this one (methinks we take our engines out too often :D).

Quick list;

EGR - ditch it (b*tch to do in the car, piece of cake out)

Det sensor - replace it

8mm water hoses - replace the lot and/or bypass the plenum ones

Anything else is up to you - injectors, port & polish etc..

For parts - Courtesy in the states, or MJP in the UK..

What he said plus:

At the very minimum crank rear main seal - check other seals for signs of leaks - if it aint broke, don't fix it though ;)

PCV hoses and valves - doddle to do out of the car.

60k service can be done in about 30mins with the engine out - well worth it.

If I think of anything else I'll post it.

Thought of another:

Oil Pump!

Motors only got 33000 on it so im not that keen on replacing items which have still got life in em.... will do the cambelt as a matter of course.... but dont think ill go for the full 60000. Checked the MJP site but cant find anything other than bolt on goodies.......is it a case of e mailing them to get service parts or am i looking in the wrong place

For the price of the full 60k kit, I would SERIOUSLY consider doing the full lot while the block is out - you will save massive amounts on labour. The kit includes the following:

Cambelt

Cambelt tensioner assy

Water pump assy

Thermostat

2 Rubber hoses

They are the main parts with the kit - you get a few oil seals etc and the VTC springs which, again, are worth doing.

As an idea - to replace the water pump, you have to do the same work as removing the cambelt.....
