Any body know if it is possible and how easy it is to completally remove the AC system ???

If you have a look at the plumbing pages in section HA of the manual you will see that it is a right b'stard.

 

To take out all the hoses and plumbing is probably more trouble than it is worth.

 

You could just disconnect the compressor if you wanted to stop the a/c working but personally just having been without it for 6 weeks or so, I wouldn't recommend it. F hot it was and no mistake.

My car is not a daily driver and only comes out in good weather , in which case the roof if off and no need for air con anyway

 

Just thinking of the airflow to the rad etc this would be much improved if the air con rad and all the crap that goes with it was removed.

Certainly the condenser DOES affect the airflow and (as in my other post) if it gets partially clogged with gunk and/or the secondary fan is faulty then you will get overheating problems.

 

If you do want to remove it, I would guess that just removing the condenser would do the trick as far as airflow is concerned. If the system has no gas in it then (according to the manual) a sensor will just shut off the compressor.

 

So you could keep the condenser hanging around in the garage to pass on to the new owner if you sell it in future.

Except the rest of the aircon system will be a write off once the moisture gets into it. The compressor will sieze as well.

 

If you go this road you might as well junk the compressor as well. Its a heavy bu99er!

 

For the power freaks this "mod" would be worth more than any UD pulley :) mainly due to the saving in mass.

Yeah think of the effect on your 1/4 mile times :D

 

Seriously - the effect must be great on cooling - that aircon rad (is that called the condenser?) is right in the way of the radiator.

 

What about relocating the aircon rad?

One of the big reasons for this is to put a bigger oil cooler and gearbox cooler in and to make the car run cooler than it does now although the bigger intercoolers that were fitted at the weekend seems to have helped a bit .

 

So anybody know how difficult it is to rip everything out ????

Actually, that's a bloody good point - should have mentioned that.

not only would you be saving mass by removing the condeser/ compressor et al, you would also save a huge power drain on the engine, by not running the compressor, not sure if you would have to adjust the size of the aux belts tho ( or just remove it jock, you twat)

Well funny you should say that As I removed it yesterday , took a couple of hours to remove the condensor and compressor belt , although left the compressor in for now

 

Does it cool any quicker = without a doubt mind you the old condensor was full of crap ,the car now runs a steady 75-80 degrees even when boosting from standstill to 120 ish (private road) the car will go to only 85 but fall back to 75-80 very quickly much quicker than it used to.

 

Is it any quicker = nah not that is noticable
