Very interesting, Roy .. but it doesn't sound to promising to me ... I mean, even though Scoobies are as common as muck ;), I still don't think that's going to sway Shell into introducing a whole new fuel to the UK, where most people want cheap rather than quality :(

Ah well, you never know, we'll have to wait and see.

(Not that I have a Mine's ECU or anything of course ;):))

how much will it cost though? Here in Greece it costs 1.09 Euro for 1 litre of V-Power Racing 100 octane

Group buy on fuel anyone? :D:D:D:D:D:D

There was a post about this on the GTROC recently - I seem to remember it saying that it was available at some stations in the UK, but that it was £4 a litre..

Oh and that the RON rating might be really high, but that it's MON rating wasn't so great..

SXOC have started to put their views across on the Shell forum :)

Personally, I'm not too worried about the cost, if it's gonna look after my Zed better, after all that's where the really big bills come from!! Although £4 a litre sounds a little expensive, are you sure that's not a gallon? (i.e. 90p a litre) :D

Az, could you explain the bit about MON rating, for the hard of understanding like myself - what is it, and what does that mean for peformance/engine protection etc?

CheerZ,

JB

I run a MINES at 1 bar on optimax and have never had any detonation at all , I don't know what all the fuss is about

BANG!

The original post from the GTROC board was this;

Shell V-Power is now on sale in the UK from one Shell approved supplier, I have a spec sheet provided by Shell at home.

I thought the MON level was a bit on the low side compared to some which for me also makes it less desireable.

I think the price is around £4 per litre which makes it a bit OTT for every day use.

Definitely says £4 a litre... But that's only from one Shell approved supplier - so probably a race fuel supplier. Then again, I'm told you can buy Elf Turbo fuel for less than £4 a litre.

On this one, I'm afraid, all I know, I said.. As I was quoting Hugh Keir from GTROC :)

I know RON is 'Research Octane Rating' and MON is something else (Motor Octane Rating?)... But I can't remember which one means what.. D'oh.. I'll have to go look it up - unless Nelson can tell us (he does work for shell, afterall)

Well my new shiny offices are shared with Petrochem Carless which amongst other things flog race fuel! either 25litre cans or 194 litre drums of Hiperflo.

HIPERFLO TURBO ULTIMATE

UNLEADED RACE FUEL

RON 102, MON 90

Specifically developed to produce

maximum power from turbo-charged

gasoline engines. Can be used in Rally

Cars, GT Cars and any other high

performance gasoline turbo-charged

race/road engine.

• Dramatic increases in engine

horsepower and torque compared to

super unleaded and other high

performance race fuels.

• Far exceeds FIA ‘Ultimate Appendix J’

requirements.

Wonder how many I can sneak out into the carpark?

LOL! Only warrens:D

Both RON and MON are calculated using an single cylinder research engine with a variable compression ratio.

RON is the milder of the tests performed at a lower rpm (600) and RON is carried out under a higher rpm (900).

Therefore, If cars are detonating at high rpm a fuel with a higher RON would be better.

LOL ... Am I the only dummy who thought that 100 must be the maximum! :D (Or am I just the only person stupid enough to admit it).

Roy, perhaps you could sneak a few past security buried in the Supra-issue chest wig? :D;)

There is the company around the corner from me who mixes fuel for a few of the uk Grand Prix and rally teams , the guy I need to speak to is on hols this week but will be back next week the guy i spoke to did not think it would be a problem to produce 100+ron fuel etc at a good cost

could be interesting :)

Hi Mac,

took her out for a spin today.... here is a breakdown of where we are.

constant overheating problems 3 burst pipes and bust heater matrix - new matrix installed and all but one pipe replaced - we are awaiting an import from japan hopefully later this month so the heater matrix is still by-passed.

Faulty earth on lights now corrected so i have driving lights although still very dim

Dodgy earth connection on indicators fixed so they dont blink silly any more.

Near side turbo gasket blown - awaiting replacement -

Gearbox vibration in 2nd and 4th (nope not gator mis-aligned) probably due to prop problems - looking to have a single piece prop made.

Clutch vibration - who would put a paddle clutch on it anyway. awaiting replacement

air conditioing compressor blew up last weekend and siezed causing severe damage to pump and belt - i had the belt cut off it today as a temporary measure. Overheating problem has stopped - maybe this was the problem and will be resolved with a new compressor.

awaiting quote for stage 2 roller bearing T28 hybrids.

awaiting quote for steel flywheel or skimming of existing.

exhaust is ****ed due to speed bumps - awaiting replacement HKS middle section with custom large bore down pipes.

Head gasket to be replaced with 2mm metal rated to 2 bar + boost .

and every time i put my foot down

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

ohhh the life of a zed owner

MON - Motor Octane Number.

This is carried out at a higher engine speed and a much higher intake temperature (150C from memory) than the RON test.

MON is a much better way of judging quality of fuel especially for forced induction engine.

Petrol companies can engineer a fuel to have a high RON by adding certain ingredients to the mix, this often though can have a low MON rating and has little or no advantage over other fuels.

Don't take all the adverts at face value!

SparkZ (Paul)

Jesus Alex is would have been cheaper to repair my old Zed!!

Kirbz

HI Mike,

i know i know - but when is the cut off when you dont spend any more money - anyway the red zed is clean and she drives really well when she is going - i think i might have paid a bit much for her but she's a beautiful car - the only thing i miss is having a series 2.

Anyway more importantly how is you bannana???:D

Regards,

Alex

I feel for you Alex.

Hopefully after this you won't have nay more problems.

One thing is fir sure, you sure are looking after her well.

She's gonna be in the best shape of her life by the time you finished.
