I recently felt some shaking on my steering wheel, hence went to get the wheels balanced, got them balanced (Kwik Fit) but the problem has actually got worse, should I go somewhere else to get them balanced up, or could it be somthing else?

If they messed it up once they will do it again.

Go some where else. I went to a National Tyres and they did a good job.

The name over the door means nothing..

Its the skill of the man who does it, not much skill, more a bit of care.

I got mine done at National Tyres, they where the only ones open on a Sunday.

The place who did the tracking before put the weight in the right place, but it should have been a 35g not 5g weight.

Also have the inside of the alloy checked for dings as they can lead to vibration!!

You may have a small flat spot on the inside of the alloy, bad shakey steering wheel.....

Matty.

Does it happen when you brake ?

If so... could be warped discs or tension bushes

or only when you reach a certain speed. ?

if so looks like the wheel balancing or maybe the bearing

Can you drive through it ?

deffo the wheel balancing

I've had the same problem. Rebalanced wheels several times. One thing that really affects zeds is if they zap the nuts up with an air wrench. Back off the nuts and re tighten by hand evenly opposite style and bring up to the proper torque. After one balancing mine was very bad just slackened off the nuts and re tightened and vibration gone. but it can come back. I noticed they slobbered copaslip over threads and wondered if it got hydraulic'd into the space between wheel and hub.

Methinks maybe aftermarket wheels can be a problem too. I've BBS 18" 8.5" on 235s. They are true and fit without anything fouling on the hub. Can the hub distort and leave the wheel running out of true?

Wheel bearings feel smooth.

The problem still comes and goes. New discs, Nismo top link bushes, poly tension rod bushes and its still there. Cant feel any play anywhere. But between 80-90 its irritating when you want real smooth.

Welcome any new ideas also to get rid of this final irritation too.

Hmm, Kwik Fit -

These folks fitted some [overpriced] front tyres for me (they jacked the car on it's front axle because they didn't know where the jacking point was), and at the same time told me that my front pads were almost shot. They asked if I wanted them to fit new pads too. I told them I'd get 'em done at a specialist. When I went to the specialist, they called me down to the car and showed me my current pads against the brand new ones they were going to fit. Would you believe it? There was hardly any difference - no significant wear at all.

As a result, I'll NEVER use them again if I can help it. I edited this post in order to avoid any slander-type difficulties.

As I mentioned before, check the inside of the alloys for a 'flat spot'.

Means taking the wheels off, then you can check, it's only a visual check but if it's slightly out you will notice while you roll it.

Maybe get some inner tyre wear also (not tracking or alignment)

Matty.

Personally I doubt a flat spot will cause the problem as it is said to come and go, flat spots are always there and in my exp can be balanced out anyway.

Thanks Matty and Mark

Pretty sure there isnt any dings or flat spots. All thats left is maybe some wear in a wheel bearing which exacerbates the running out of true with big diameter wider wheels than stock. Could be getting noticeable when both wheels get into synch with each other and then drift out of synch again as you corner for example. You cant take up wear in this type of wheel bearing can you?

I see some had changed rack bushes so I took a look at that as well. If someone moves the seering wheel I can deel the rack move very slightly against the bushes but its hardly anything.
