Took the Zed out today which to be honest never comes out on a wet day because of a dodgy MAF , anyway today I have no choice, so my journey is about 40 miles. Completed about 25 with no problems at all when the car starts jerking and won't rev properly, oh and cuts out at every roundabout. So I think well I know what it is the MAF sensor I will just nurse it home.

Get within 3 miles of home and the car just will not go anymore , so pull over thinking I will just sit for a little while waiting for the air filter to dry out a little, by this time the car will not even tick over so open the bonnet and the fuel pipe at the back of the engine has a split in it and is throwing fuel all over the engine  (halfords fuel pipe)

Anyway a bit of gaffer tape and a few jubilee clips see me on my way home without any problems at all.

How lucky was I that it did not end up in a ball of flames

Reminds me of years ago doing 130mph in my brothers Opel Manta GTE.

The car suddenly ran rough and spluttered to a crawl so we got out and looked under the bonnet with the engine still running.

Fuel was spraying in a jet as thick as your little finger onto the glowing manifold! :o

We switched it off pretty damn quick! :D

Luckily the manifold was so hot the fuel just vapourised but it could have been real nasty.

Scary to think what can happen and how lucky you can be at times

At least it was raining! Would have put the flames out..........

Lucky man Ryan.

Dan,

I think if I had seen flames coming out I would not have hung around long enough to open the bonnet to let the rain put the fire out :D

I'd double check the rest of the hoses if I were U and maybe carry an extinguisher....:p :D

LOL!!! reminds me of what happened a few years back - Skoda pulls up outside our workshop & the driver jumps out & starts running around like a headless chicken shouting "Help, Help!" we realise that flames are coming out of his engine bay!! so i grab a fire extinguisher & go over to the car, as i get there the bloke goes to open the bonnet (boot?!)!! we all shout "NOOOOOOOOO!"

to late!! aaaaaaaaaaaargh!! smell of burning flesh!! :D :D

now i dont believe you wanted to do that!

we put the fire out by blasting through the grille with the extinguisher. another skip off the roads :D

On Skoda.........

Man goes into accessories shop and says:

"Can you do me a petrol filler cap for my Skoda?"

Assistant replies:

"Certainly, sir; sounds like a fair swop."

:) :) :)
