say someone was to have a legit version of XP pro installed on one computer in their house, and they wanted to install it on another, say for diagnostic purposes while the 1st beige box was out of action or something, is it possible to install it on the second computer without having to register it???

hypothetically speaking? ;)

I've heard that there are some utilities available that allow you to modify the licence key, say to one such as a Corporate key, that doesn't need activation. My, how useful that would be !

any ideas how one might go about getting such a utility? anyone know of one that works successfully??

The only one I found.. was a virus :'( :(

You can install it no problem, you have 30 days before it will expire, or require activation. 30 days should be enough to get the main box fixed.
