Im looking to move light washers so they squirt on the intercoolers.

 

I can honestly say that I have never use the light washers. Just wetting the lights does not clean them.

 

Would that help at all?

No but remember I said the water wne tinto a small container, so iot could be used AFTER the rain had gone. Also, more boost can men you get same power by reducing revs and possibly saving fuel ;)

this is harldy like youve invented something lol, its already a proven product, water injection into intercooelrs has been around as long as intercooling lol, you just simplify it by adding rain ???? WTF what if your in a place that doesent rain?

lol then of course you could be far more efficient and just use chargecooling for the intercooler?

I'm not claiming to be the automotive version of Trevor Bayliss :D but my idea was not water INTO the intercoolers but ON them, so that they cool the air inside.

no it was funny lol, youd need sooo much water to keep a constant cooling effect youd need to much water..

 

chargecooling really is the ticket, in JHB in the hot temps they develop chargecoolers for the cars and they have little catch tanks in the back with Hot ice (dry ice) what ever you want to call it) good for drag racing.

but in this country climate its probably not worth the effort.

Do the headlamp washer bottle conversion to squirt on the IC's , then fill the bottle with slush-puppies :D

It's not such a dumb idea (well OK, it's is quite dumb. LOL;)), but I'd often wondered why some of that nice clean excess rainwater isn't used to top up the windscreen washers ...

 

Capturing enough to squirt on the intercoolers would be a bit of a challenge though and even water injection systems use a surprising amount of water - plus you'd still have to remember to put the 50% methanol in ! :D

HUH? Clean? Well, only if you filtered it well. Otherwise rain is full of dust and particles. Thats why it falls innit! Water vapour condensing around dust etc etc. I'm sure the whole works would soon be gummed up with crap.:( :confused:

Anyway - yes, spraying water onto the IC's is good - lots of people have been doing it (GT Tuning have had a kit for their FMIC setup on the 5 Turbo for 10 years now)..

 

Chargecooling is also good - I seem to remember one of the 5 tuners big power cars (i.e. ~300bhp from a 1.5ltr 8v OHV engine) used a chargecooler..

However the other used an IC..

 

The virtues of each used to be debated endlessly in the 5 club.. There never was a hard and fast answer - as nobody did any back-to-back tests. Maybe I will one day, on a Z, and a rolling road.

Water spray onto the intercooler has known and well documented benefits...but you really need to use a "mist spray" rather than pumping water straight onto it with headlight washers. Lot's of the scooby boys have found they can get the right size droplets from a nozzle from B&Q :D

 

I'd like to point out that lowering charge temperatures, lowers inlet temperatures and improves efficiency of the engine, but that any actual increase in boost will require a corresponding increase in fuel.

 

Chargecoolers rock.

 

Your best bet is a dual speed pump for on / off boost.

OK Whilst we are on the subject on using nature to go faster, why not fit a big lightning conductor on the roof to take advantage of lightning.

 

1.21 jiggawatts.

But I would have thought a B&Q type of spray would just get blown away before it reaches the intercooler. I mean spraying water on the plants and half the spray hardly reaches the plant, 1 inch away ;)
