Temp Gauge fault

I started my car up today and about 10 mintues later my temp gauge went all funny it started bouncing up and down.

It didnt go higher then the middle but it went up and down quite crazily it was like it was just shooting up and down and then it would stop doing it.

I checked the water and it was fine, so i carried on driving and throughout the day it would do the same on and off.

I took it to my local mechanic and he said its probably some sort of electric problem iv got the car booked in with an auto electrician and he says its either 3 things the gauge itself, corroded wiring (or bad earth) or faulty temp sensor.

I just wantet to know if any1 else has had a similar problem and whats the best thing to do.

Clean the coolant temperature sensor connector.

If the temperature gauge drops under acceleration or goes up and down erratically under acceleration, clean or replace the temp. sending unit. It is located on the top aluminum pipe in the front of the motor. It is the sensor to the right with only one wire coming out of it.
