Wazza likes them as they remind him of Stu's mamma!

:D

Matty.

looks like a fancy kettle FFS !!:D ;)

They look really good. I like the screw holder and that frame at the back of the case to keep from all your cables spreading out.

Doesn't take much to keep you happy does it? ;)

Alternatively get yourself a real computer! :D

Tim - aren't they (MACS) better for computer graphic (computer artwork) ?

Arguably yes they are (I know I'm not Tim :D), and not just because they've classically always been used for Graphics, so the software is better (because most of it has been ported to the x86 platform now too, like Photoshop, Quark Xpress etc)..

They handle large (read large) images better because they use a flat memory model (Originally Motorola 68000 based, then Motorola PPC based, and soon IBM 870 based, I think the code is), rather than the Intel x86 architecture paged memory model, where all chunks of memory above 640kb are split into pages, which have to be moved around, shuffled, and otherwise played with to access them..

Basically, anyway, in a nutshell :)

Just a shame Mac's have a hideous operating system (IMHO, of course). Although at least you can zap it and load a PPC based distro of Linux :D

No mine is much better than that shite:D:D;)

That is why I hate MACs. The OS is terrible.

FFS they dont have a button to take the floppy disk out. You have to boot the fecker up and eject it using a menu bar. :@ Its like having to start your engine up and fiddle with you wind screen wipers to get your door open.

BWHAHAHAHAHAHA like youd know any better owning a MAC lmfao, Macs are the biggest piles of dog poo on the market.

Try get a programme for one lmfao, making the first 64 bit processor doesnt mean its the best :D:D

Why We Hate Macs

Pricing -- Apple's pricing scheme is outrageous. I could get a PC that's twice as fast as a PowerMac for nearly half the price [+]. This, my friend, is why Apple owns less than five percent of the computing market.

Compatibility -- When it comes to software compatibility (especially games), the PC wins, no questions asked. Very few games are compatible with Macs; just ask any hardcore computer gamer. There are many Mac users who have an extra PC for the sole purpose of game playing.

The Dock Bar -- If you're gonna copy off of the Start Menu, at least do it right. There are several disadvantages to the Dock Bar. Its size, location, and usability problems are just a few. For a complete list of reasons, go here.

File Backups -- XP offers a backup utility so you can select files to back up, and select a destination for the backup. You can back up to external media, you can schedule automatic backups, and you can restore from your backups. With OS X, Apple advises that you pay for a .Mac account to use to back up files.

Extra Costs -- One of the biggest misconceptions made by Mac users is that when you buy a PC, you have to fork over hundreds of extra dollars because "Microsoft makes you buy a bunch of extra stuff." I find that odd, because I haven't had to pay a dime extra since I bought my PC, nor have any of my PC using friends. Instead, it's the other way around; once you've paid the thousand some odd dollars for the Mac itself, you have to shell out another thousand or two for the monitor, and if you want "premium services" with .Mac, that's another $99.00. Did I mention they don't come with a floppy drive?

Ease of Use -- When it comes to ease of use, Windows XP tops the charts. Not only does it have a layout that's easily understood, the OS includes a comprehensive help database to assist you, and programs to help you with everything from networking to CD burning to installing new programs; something that is yet to be seen in OS X.

Those annoying Switch commercials -- 'nuff said

Support -- If your dog eats your hard drive, or you spill coffee on your computer and it some how leaks down and soaks your motherboard, it's gonna take a while to get that fixed if you're a Mac user, unless the Apple store is in your backyard. First, you have to find out the 200-letter name of the part you're missing, call Apple, order the part, and then wait a month for the parts to be delivered. Your computer sits in the corner, useless the entire time. Then, when the piece finally arrives (if it didn't break during shipping), you have to find out where the piece goes, and then struggle for hours trying to get the piece to fit. If you're a PC user and this happens, all you have to do is take your machine to the nearest computer shop :D:D

guess I won't buy a MAC then !:D

Nice one Waz, I'm gonna print that lot and stick it on the only sodding user at work that still uses a Mac, and still bothers me about support!

Why We Love Macs

Pricing -- Apple's pricing scheme is competive. Find me a pc thats as fast as a dual G5. The new Power Mac G5 throttles past both the fastest Pentium 4 and a dual-processor Xeon workstation when tested using industry standard SPEC CPU 2000 benchmarks

Compatibility -- Hmm i bought the latest game and it doesnt run on my pc, oh you need to upgrade your ram, graphics card and cpu, oh i did that 6 months ago, yeah but your new games wont run unless u have the latest ati or nvidia beast.

The Dock Bar -- I think you'll find mac had the first WIMP Windows ICONS MENUS POINTERS os way back before the first Microsoft incarnation appeared.

File Backups -- Ive used macs for 10 years and never lost a file, its file system is far supierior to both fat 32 and NTFS. U can be playing a file an copy it else wear while the file is in use, try that on windows os

Extra Costs -- Mac did the brave step of abandoning the floppy some 8 years ago, a step in the right direction, most new macs come with cdwriters or dvd burners now.

Ease of Use -- OS comes complete with a media player movie maker and most software is written identically, if u can find your way around one program u can use them all, navigate with a single click and mac apps have way more keyboard shortcuts to make program manipulation a doddle

Support - Support from the people that make them not some 3rd party contractors. Next day pick up and repair.

99 % of design and artwork was designed on the mac before the pc was powerfull enough to handle the intense work, try playing with a 200 meg picture on a 1 gig g4 and watch that baby fly.

If there is no floppy how can you copy a small file to another MAC which isnt conencted to the internet nor have a CD. Even if they did have a CD its a waste burning a CD just to put a small file on. Even if you put it as multi session, you still have read in and read out and will take 10 times longer than just dropping your file(s) on to a floppy disc.

And I dont think you know what you are talking about with computer games. All PC games have had the option to change the resolution and detail for years. My mate still plays games on his Athlon 900mhz, he just turns down detail. The other option is a games console and have to change that every 2 years.

Warren, leave the C64 alone ;)

It was the best home computer ever. :D

I still play the games on the C64 Emulator.

cost a fortune but are pretty cool

They are an overpriced rip off.

Do the mathematics mate, a perfect clone of an alienware PC will be £400 cheaper without the alienware case and the alienware case sticker.

Still, free market innit.

;)

Can't believe you guys are having this battle. You cannot compare the two. Macs and PCs are not supposed to compete with each other. I've been in the industry for years and work with PCs all day and Windoze. The fact is, everyone knows Microsoft ripped off Apple and got all their ideas from them. Windoze XP is a long time coming and is the most unstable OS I can think of!!

If you want to do nothing but play games then get yourself a console. We all know gaming on PCs is **** and Macs were never really designed to be used for gaming, but the fact is, you CAN play all the most up-to-date games on a MAC without the need to upgrade every six months!! Who needs floppy diskettes these days when you've got infra-red, wireless LAN, bluetooth, iDisk etc. If you want a decent work horse, get yourself an Apple and install Linux on it!! They you truly will have the 'Best PC'

End of conversation!!

trust me ive worked in a computer shop and u simply cant buy a game for a pc off the shelf and it work on any pc, theres an infinate combination of hardware software on the pc platform, and some games just wont work with certain setups. unless u have a bit of knowledge it can be very frustrating,

fine in turning the detail down but it kinda like driving in 1st gear

but as dom says its not really a fair comparison

Wow...what a surprise: another person slagging off XP who hasn't used it. It's equally, if not more stable than Windows 2000. We've got 400 machines running it at work...and how many OS crashes have we had since Christmas? 2. Even the Unix guys had to admit that was good. Can't wait to see if Server 2003 is any good. I have yet to meet anyone who has used XP for any amount of time who thinks it's unstable. Perhaps it wasn't installed properly?

OfficeXP is a different kettle of fish....Word / Outlook seem to actually crash hourly. However, I've not yet lost anywork, so I am not that bothered: it's a minor irritation.

My only criticism is that XP really isn't happy in 128Mb of RAM....you need a minimum of 256Mb to run any applications.

I've not really had to work with Macs that much....always had a seperate team. But the funny thing is, all the guys I know who support Mac OS, Linux and MS think they are essentially the same: they've all got faults. Linux is way to technical for a beginner. Windows can be used by idiots, but WILL break when they start playing with it. Macs are relatively bullet proof, but can a pig to get decent software for. It's horses for courses, really. Macs are by far and away the most powerful number crunchers in their price bracket. Unfortunately, their "cross platform" availability of software that takes advantage of it is poor, or at least 2 or 3 months behind the PC world. PCs are the best games machines. Period. Even better than consoles. Trouble is, they take a lot of setting up, go wrong, crash and don't interface with the living room especially well. Which is why consoles are so successful. You want the BEST graphics and sound, use a PC. You want it to work straight out of the box, buy a console.

There is no such thing as a "best" PC, a "best" OS or a "best" car. People want different things. Wouldn't it be boring if we were all the same?
