Hello guys,

I get steering wheel vibration when braking and I've seen in other posts that this would probably be caused by warped discs. If this is the case, why do I only get vibrations some of the time?

Is it only when breaking over 50 mhp?

Hi vijay

Steering wheel vibration can be caused by a No of factors.

Is it purely under braking ?

Check for warped discs?

Sticking calipers ?

Worn track rod ends ?

Steering rack inner tie rod joints

Wheel bearings ?

Hope this helps to give you some pointers.

no, even when braking from 20-25 mph, it's just more noticable from higher speeds.

I know this may be obvious but is the vibration only on braking or is it there all

the time ?

If all the time have you checked for wheel balance if only on braking first jack up both

front wheels and check for play in all of the areas i mentioned above. and check all Pots

move freely when depressing brake pedal

If everything is still OK then either remove discs and take them to a machine shop to check for warping or just renew/refit.

If theres no play then you need to remove discs and check

it's just under braking. Is there anyway of checking the disks yourself?

I've been having the same problem for a couple of months now Vijay.

I've done the following so far:

All discs re-skimmed, pads have been champherd still 8mm left, Wheels (F) ballanced, 4 wheel alinement ctr last weekend, big £, I still have the hebejebes on long gradual breaking. Im running out of ideas now.

The cars as stable as a scateboard untill I touch the stop button.

At the weekend its going for a brake test at an mot place to see if my L/R is equal.

Next will be the rods & stuff but they seem fine under hard braking !

Let me know if you find a solution.

This is a weird one isn't it? My Supra used to suffer from this, spent about £500 at Formula1 in Stevenage(don't mind shaming them, Leo's!)...had new front and rear discs replaced due to the fact that when I braked hard I was doing Electric Boogaloo in the drivers seat!

Also had shocks replaced, not sure if rear but defo front. Anyway, picked the car up and it was fine for a while then started doing it again.

Took it into Toyota, they put OEM discs on and I never had a problem with it since 'till the day I chopped it in for Nastey Nissan!

The other check you can make is to enure all pistons of the caliper are moving freely.

If one is sticking then this will cause the same problem.

I have had severe juddering for quite a while and it seems to vary based on the temperature of the brakes.

Seems worse on mine when the brakes are cold and improves if I give them a bit of stick.

Had the disks skimmed but no better.

The car has just failed the MOT for split front Tie Bar (Tension Rod) bushes.

Don't know if this is what is causing the judder or if the juddering could have split the bushes.
