pete shrimp
Hey, My passenger side folding wingmirror is taking longer and longer to fold in - the drivers side one beats it every time ;) How easy is it to pull the motor out and replace if needed? I presume it is somewhere around the wingmirror itself? Thanks folks :) Pete
AndyP
It's not too difficult, just get your toolkit out and have a go. Only real hassle is that you have to take most of the door trim off to get to the mirror bolts and on mine the plug on the end of the wire wouldn't fit through the hole in the door ! Can't remember whether you can get to all of the bolts when the mirror is still attached to the door, I had to take the whole assembly off on mine because the mirror stem was broken. pete shrimp
OK cool, thanks Mr P :) I'll give it a go now I know (hope) it's not too bad. Ta very muchly Pete
Bilky
Mine stopped folding in although you could hear the motor trying - I pulled it apart - the hardest part was undoing the 3 screws underneath the mirror - after that it was easy - just take your time - and have some wd-40 and some light oil to clean it all up with. Mines as good as new now. I didnt need to pull any trim off except the outer mirror plastic
Guest Rod dude
Where are the fuses for the lecy mirrors? Mine stopped working quite suddenly - I assumed it was a fuse but couldn't find one labelled anything like. Cheers Rod
51x
Sorry... I'm having one of those moments... you guys are saying you've got electrically folding wing-mirrors?! Is this a Jap thing?
james300
Yeah.......its a JAP thing.........jealous??? 51x
Bl**dy h*ell, you bet I'm jealous! (still prefer my UK seat belts tho ;) ). Where's the switch to control them then? And (dare I ask) how much hassle to do a conversion?

james300
I must install the software for my digital camera at work! The switch is in between the ash-tray and the lift up storage lid. Also has mirror controls there aswell, for up/down/left/right.
silverfox
mine fold in and out ok but wobble like hell. Any speed over about 60 and they flap about. Anyone else had this problem and fettled it? David
Guest Malibu
hello, I've only ever had the drivers side mirror fold in! I assumed only one did... but looks like i'll have to get me spanners out now and investigate the passenger side one! And Silverfox.. totally agree with you about the wobble over 60mph.. makes it twice as tricky to keep an eye out for the boyz in blue when 'accidently' speeding!:D
james300
Must just be the 3 screws underneath that are loose.
silverfox
took one apart for a quick look. There is an alloy plate that the screws screw into. This is shattered into 3 bits. Guess they have been overtightened in the past or something but I guess that would be in response to an already wobbling mirror. Maybe I could find a cosmetically broken one and canablise it. If any one out there has one give me a shout. Cheers David
james300
I'll check mine in the morning......my old one that is! Can't remember what broke and what didn't. You are welcome to the bit you need if it is still in tact.
jenbstevieb
This will sound daft but try a bit of WD40 and a wiggle. My passenger side was precisely the same and I was dreasing the replacement cost. So when I washed the old thunder last weekend, I hit it with the WD and let her have a wiggle. Damn thing has worked perfectly ever since.. might be worth a try?? b19rks
If its wobbling at speed and/ or not folding properly chances are that the round metal disc that they are attached to inside is broken, mine had been snapped in two, think someone had tried to tigten up the 3 screws too much, and i thought id have to get a new one but i thought id give the no more nails a go on it. It stuck it perfectly it now folds in and out ok and doesnt wobble at speed. Another tip, if removing the mirror move the mirrors so theyre not folded either in or out but somewhere in between so that when you take it off the two ball bearings and springs that it clicks into place with dont fall out. They are a sod to get back in if the metal disc is broke. (you will see what i mean when you take it off!! Also you dont have to remove the door trim to get to this bit, just the 3 screws, though you dont get alot of room to work in as its still attached by the wire. silverfox
sorry james, no offense!! :o If the bit in yours is in one piece I would really appreciate it - and I appreciate you looking even if it isn't. Still have the other one to fix though
