I er forgot to post this in my Trim & Alarm Post.

I need to fit a alarm to my import zed. It has a turbo timer can anyone advise ?

I am up in the norteast and would appreciate and advice on anyone who has had a good alarm fitted in the area.

And any thoughts on a Tracker ?

Cheers

You can put the alarm ignition sense wire through a relay. The relay is set to break the alarm to ignition wire when the timer is active. Then you can set the alarm with the timer active but not with the ignition on and the timer off. Just be careful where you put the immobiliser cuts!!

Tracker, Cheap now but old technology. GPS GSM tracking is the way to go. (Navtrak, Patriot etc)

When I had my cat 1 alarm fitted, I was told that they would have to disconnect the turbo timer, or the alarm would comply with the standard. i.e. the immobiliser must automatically set within so many seconds. and it could invalidate my insurance

I am affraid to say that it is true. Technically you should not fit a certified Thatcham approved alarm or immobiliser to any car with a turbo timer or remote start (hence why Cliffords flagship is not Cat 1 as it has remote start). I dont know if the rules have changed but I believe this to be correct still (I haven't fitted many alarms for a few years now).

mine is a clifford 500 and has remote start and a hks and clifford gave a certificate after fitting to prove it is cat1 thatchum approved....to which norwich union have verified my alarm is cat 1 even with my turbo timer and remote start.;)

I must be wrong or out of date then!!
