pete shrimp
Hi all, I've just replaced my buggered radio aerial and motor today (thanks AndyZ :D) and it now goes up and down an' everything! Trouble is - the radio STILL doesn't work :( . The connections are fine both ends but no reception, not even close. What could be wrong? Thanks Pete
james300
You live in outer space ??? Strange one Pete, a connection MUST be down somewhere!? I suppose you could get a voltmeter (with a long lead) to check there is a connection between aerial and the back of your radio?
pete shrimp
Hmm good plan James I'll do that :) Means taking the fecking dash apart again  d'oh! Cheers Pete
james300
Only the top part of the cente consule? You must be able to do that with our eyes closed by now! Took mine off this week to spray it silver......turned out really good.
pete shrimp
Yeah but the new stereo only just fits through the gap and was a nightmare to get in  . The dodgy metal bracket doesn't help with the alignment either... Might take the opportunity to spray it, and some other bits :) I'd have thought the problem must be near the radio end cos the wire to the aerial would act as a poor aerial and give *some* reception? TonyC
Pete, are you using the original jap aerial lead with the two prong type connectors,if so it wont work, you need a converter still:confused:
pete shrimp
Alright Tony :) Yep there was already an one-prong adaptor in there which wasn't being used. Thought it strange at the time but plugged it in and it fits. Pete
TonyC
mmmmmm i think it will not work as the radio was the original, the lead connector will not do it,i have same prob with mine, but was impatient to have new cd working so did not bother to get adapter(crap on radio anyway)cant remember name of specific part needed for radio but can find out ,unless anyone on hear knows:( ;)
james300
Thats a 'snap' for me too, but assumed it was because my aerial didn't go up.........not that I was bothered cos don't like listening to the radio! but will keep an eye on this thread. Paul C
FWIW, the adapters are about £15 iirc!! you can get just a crimp type end, cut the old plug off & crimp (& preferably solder) the new end on. there is 2 coax cables going in. solder the inner core to the center prong, & the outer shield cable to the outer body. job done for about 50p ;) works a treat on mine - & i have disconnected my aerial & just use the one in the rear screen. Graham S
Paul, exactly how did you connect the new aerial plug. My nissan plug has two pins plus screen, with two coax cables going in (one fat, one thin). What should I connect to the new, standard, aerial plug? Advice appreciated. Graham.
Paul C
solder the 2 inner cables to the center pin, & the 2 outer shielding to the outer part of the connector. hth
Graham S
Cheers Paul, I'll do that. Any idea why they used two coax feeds?
