According to a jap mag i have read the standard suspension on the 300zx is adjustable, hard and soft, and the way of changin it between settings is by usin...and wait 4it....the handbrake!! ive got the service maual for the zx and seems 2b true as the hanbrake cable is connected 2 'rear shock absorber actuators' which somehow can change the stiffness of the shocks. now what the jap mag or my service manual dont tell me is how to change the damn things, ie switch between both settings. This is prob new 2most of u as nissan seemed 2keep this quiet 4sum reason. neway..

Does anyone know how to change between the hard/soft settings ??

Which manual are you using? The two on-line manuals (links given earlier) do NOT show a connection with HICAS. That's the circuit diagram which I posted above (page RA-27). The wiring diag on RA-27 only shows connections to shocks, shock control unit, ignition switch brake lamp and parking brake switch.

look at the circuit diagram in the manual see links above.

The HICAS unit is in the top area on page 3 and the shock absorber control unit in the bottom area on page 4. 26 and 27 are ringed as leaving the HICAS unit and 26 and 27 are ringed again as entering the shock absorber control unit. I could be misreading it of course but it looks right to me. Sorry I cant cut and paste the sections of the diagram.

You should have quickly noticed the 26 signal is in fact the input 1 which corresponds to parking brake signal (which is required also for HICAS mngt) and 27 is 6 which is simply the power supply from ignition.

This solenoid control unit has only one link : the handbrake signal, that's all.

And the interest of making stiffer the rear shocks when handbrake is triggered is not still solved.

I agree with GIO, it's unbelievable.
