Home internet connection!

The rules are simple go to

http://promos.mcafee.com/speedometer/

Click on "Test Now" then grab the result on the next page that pops up.

I know that the results can be fiddled but this result was absolutely genuine - just upgraded to 1MBit/sec NTL cable modem!

Correct - but hey your result aint so bad - nor is Dilbrains.

I would be interested in some results for BT ADSL connections - I was told that they can have up to a 20 fold "contention" in other words 20 people sharing the bandwidth.

I could tell you all about www.mrwebspace.net . This should be faster either with a modem or ADSL.

I'm not so sure - at our office we got a 2MBit/sec ADSL line but my home Cable Modem is consistantly faster. My understanding is that with a Cable Modem less people share the bandwidth than with an ADSL line.

The modem dialup is non-contended so it's one for one. Always nice.

ADSL is either 50:1 or 20:1 contention in its standard forms.

I am sitting on 2 x 45Mb links and a single 34 Mb link at the moment. Nice eh..

I apologize for the shameless plug....

I was told that NTL cable modem was a 2MBit/sec split between 4 peeps. Is this correct?

Nope, 15:1...

That is better than any ADSL offering though so don't grumble.
