OK I know "how long's a piece of string" but,

My Zed engine may need potentially either new piston or rings (possibly). I have been thinking of going elsewhare as there has been no movement on my car at it's current garage.

Has anyone had just basic engine repair work done at places other than SE!! And how much roughly are they being charged?

Ta in advance,

Eddie that blows man :(

after all that money.

give Progress engineering a ring 01622687070 speak to DAVE. i have to say to date (touching alot of wood) they have done a great job on mine.

i recon your looking at around £600 psitons - £ 200 for rings £740 for engine out engine back in - and of course labour which should be around - £300-£500

Great thanks a lot Warren, touching wood also I know your cars been spot on since the latest re-build.

I know you have Mines ECU, but do you know of anyone that can reprogram my SE one as a bespoke Job??

The chip I have been left with runs mega rich at top end I have been told, which is why I ended up with 153mph at Top Speed Challenge (TSC).

yeah Progress are also the main agents for motech, so i think they could help you out there aswell.

i just got Emanage ect aswell, so i can fine tune ecu, for more fuel ect when i finally up the boost lol (still running below a bar lmao)

Can't believe they haven't started it!!

£200 for rings? You are joking aren't you Waz?

I can get you a price on Hastings rings (very good rings) if you want Eddie, I doubt they would be much more than £50 for std, if you are going for overbore forgies it might be a bit more.

I'm going to be ordering so stuff tomorrow I can ask then if you like.

Eddie,

Progress are definately the place to sort out your problem!

My engine rebuild is spot on since they completed it.

I wouldn't let any other garage near my Z.

Steve

Thanks guys.

I have spoken to Dave @ Progress, TOP MAN!!

Gave me a lot of confidence in what they can do, he's going to get back to me with some quotes.

Best of all these guys actually call you back.

LOL there is alot to say about customer service and i they at least do try look after you, lol i wonder what SE'S phone bill is at the end of the month? probably about £6 :D:D

Hi Eddie,

Welcome to the "Super rich SE chip" club! :)

If you're going to be running in new cylinders, get yourself an HKS Super AFR fitted before driving the car after its recuild. You use it to lean the mix off a bit, otherwise you run the risk of glazing the bores - which I can only speak of from first hand experience. Dead easy to setup.

MAC1 bought one recently, and I believe he has good words to say too.

Good luck

Simon.

LOL!!

Probably less than that, maybee their number is Premium Rate ;) so they make dosh whenever we call to find out they've done f-all to our cars. :D

Yes Simon I do indeed, has improved the cars midrange in leaps and bounds;)

Hi Eddie,

Sorry to hear about your engines demise, when I was looking at pistons, two were two makes that seemed to be good value!

The JE pistons that seemed to be very strong but you apparantely get a lot of piston slap due to low tolerance levels!

Or arias pistons who have a UK branch, they sell the pistons with rings, gudgeon pins etc., for 90 + vat each and meant to be good quality with less piston slap than the JE, they also make pistons for Jim wolf.

I have heard Jaylox can get a good deal on tomei or jun pistons!

By the way when fitting forged pistons, unless you go for the jun or tomei that have the oil channels built in, it is advisable to use the oil squirters from a NA engine!
