I had my money in hand to buy a Blitz ECU upgrade today and they told me to wait two months while Blitz redesigns it to make it more 'user friendly'.

What's the experience with other ECUs? JWT and Mines seem to be out there in numbers. All of the units claim lots but does anyone have some info on how they effect drivability? I ain't gonna do 1.5 bar so I'm not interested in max power, just better all around performance (Blitz SBC-ID, intake, no cats, 1998TT).

yup, 14.7:1 is the chemically correct ratio for combustion (stoichiometric). or at least it was when i was at college ;)

14.7:1 is stoichiometrically correct, but will NOT give the best power. If you aim for that right through the rev range you'll kill your engine in seconds.

I'm not entirely sure why this is, but I know it's right!

14.7/1 is the correct ratio for cumbustion in an ideal world. In practice you need to run a little bit richer to be safe to compensate for load. Engine ECU's try all day long to get 14.7/1 safely but it is just not possible under load, only really achievable with engine under no load, ie no acceleration with vehicle static.

10/1 is very rich and probably sapping power, but its safe!!!

Chip makers will (should) always build an element of safety into chips in the event that poor fuel, high temps, higher boost etc will occure at some point. If you pay a tuner to Map your ecu then they can set the fuelling correctly for your setup enabling less safety margin to be used and extract more power usually.

DONT BUY SUPERCHIPS!!!!!!!!!!!

It's also my understanding that leaner mixtures ignite easier so are more prone to detonation.

The Z ECU tries to set a AFR for each site based on air flow in x injector calibration values, so if the map is expanded out enough for the air flow going in, it should be pretty accurate. Seems like a better approach than the emerald one on my 205 which used throttle position and revs only, but I guess on an aspirated engine that's OK with no boost to compensate for.

If I ever actually get time to try and map it fully I'll post the results up vs JWT and the tweaked JWT one I'm using now.

The SE chip must still have a fair safety margin as Macca has just had a HKS AFR fitted and setup by Latz at GPS and noticed a huge difference.

I had a JWT chip before changing to SE and again that was a massive improvement.

But Latz INCREASED the fuelling across the rev band!?!?!?!? Maybe I'm wrong but I'm sure I aint lol touch wood kinda thing..... aaaaaaah thats better ROFL Just ignore me, I've got a nice disciplinary in an hour for having ONE yes ONE day off sick - looks like a good old final written too..... OH JOY :D

DOH!!! and double DOH!!!!

Good luck Duffman!

Paul

Do S.E sell just one type of chip for the Zed, or will they fit one type if standard boost and another if you are running higher boost?

CheerZ m8 - this place just takes the p1ss :(

Didn't think they were allowed to diciplin you for sick days any more?? At least not until you go over the self certified threshold (7days I think). Tribunal hearing would have a field day. Bastards!!!!!!!!

Hi Guys, Sorry to Hijack your thread Bill, but does anyone know of a good ECU tuner who can set up the car on a rolling road.

I would prefer if it wasn't S.E as I called them nine times about a £10k rebuild and never once got a call back, (they must have money to burn :) )

It's the wrong way round, but if you walked into SE at the moment and started talking about a full rebuild, I think Pete might burst into tears.

They've had a lot of work to do, but they are getting there. Mine's at the end of the line now, but it's been 6-odd months... painful, but I trust they're gonna get it right so I just bite my knuckles and wait.

Not that this answers your question. If you were talking about "just" doing a mapping, I'm sure they'd fit it in much quicker. And do a good job.
