Top blokes, these Italians "people who drive faster drive better.."

If I ever said anything nasty about Italians, I hereby take it all back, What a sensible, educated, rational people - especially their transport minister. :D

That makes sense to me - I always make more mistakes when dawdling.

very interesting - but there is some truth in it.

arn't the German Autobahns some of the safest roads around?? ban all speed limits!! :D

Yeah, but the problem is still joining an Italian Autostrada from the rather short slip roads.

My wife and I had a near death incident when following a coach down the slip road. He parked and gave way at the bottom, stopping us from accelerating to join the road at a sensible speed. Result of his sudden change of heart was that my wife (driving) had to pull into the motorway and then slow to give way to the braindead coach driver.

We got rear ended by a jugonaut doing about 80mph and the coach pulled effortlessly into the clear road that the pile up created.

Wouldn't have happened if we'd been in the zed as we could have accelerated into the stream with ease, but slower cars and coaches need quite a run up to merge into the traffic.

I often go to ROME and the motorways are awesome in my opinion, they drive like complete lunatics yet you never see accidents? its a bit unerving lol and the cops are cool, went past many at stupid speeds and they did nothing :D

Gio, there was a time I rented a car in Catania, Sicily - didn't think too much of it - it was a Punto.

Then I got into traffic and realised it was the only car in all of Scicily without major bodywork damage.

When I returned it 2 weeks later it was covered in dints, and I thought I was going to have a real hard time at the car hire returns. But the took one glance at it (as if to check it was the right car) and ticked the box and let me go.

I told the story to my Sicilian hosts when I got back to the UK and he said - We have a saying - your car is only new in the showroom!

Italians eh, Non gli capico (Mi dispiace, no ho parlato lontano l'Italiano!)
