A 6th order bandpass enclosure is one which is basically a 4th order enclosure but with further equalisation and crossover on top. I like the design because of its efficiency and its lack of demand for high power drivers.

Nigel, do you have a copy of High performance Loudpeakers by Martin Colloms? if so, read PP 156 - 161.

I'm afraid I don't have the book (?) you mention, my 'skills' were aquired by apprenticeship and self-experience.

I'm still interested to know more though, cos my 'full range' diamond 6x9s don't go quite low enough and I am considering a sub, when I've finished spending money on the mechanicals! I was browsing the rides section and quite liked the neatness of Andrew Gs Install

-but I'm keen to know more!

My 18" sub goes down to 20htz

Toger, Sorry for stealing your thread!!

2 JL 12's in a sealed box would be nice, good power handling and nice and tight. I spit on the 18's LOL!!!!! (Sorry Burf)

Nigel, I am only trying this in my car as an experiment. I have used them before in cars with little space with 8in drivers but never with 10s in a bigger space. From the calcs I have done it should compare well to 2 12's in a sealed box but without the power requirement, extra weight and cabling.

have a search for 6th order bandpass on google, theres loads of DIY sites, FYI I am building a quasi 6th order enclosure using the spare wheel well for some of its capacity out of GRP.

If you just require a bit of low extension then a good 8in setup would be perfect. You can build a Quasi 6th order box with as little as 0.8 cubic feet volume that will have F3 of 32 - 111 Hz. This will add depth to the system and relieve the 6X9's of the lower end reproduction.

PM me or MSN (ArundaleP@hotmail.com) if you want to discuss.

Burf, how much Horsepower do you get from your 18?

8in drivers are not proper subs as they do not go down low enough

My 18in sub is great for low bass and will take on 2 12" subs!

An 8in can be a sub in the right enclosure. What else makes up your system?

I dont mean to knock your 18, I just get Kids in Saxos all day with blown up 18's, does me head in!! Stomach rumble........hisss etc!

We will have to have a public judging when I have finished! LOL

Paul

I got my 18" sub as it was in my budget and can take a shed load of power. its not a cheap sub its a 4 ohm bass sub for pa and conserts

col2.jpg

LOUD VERY VERY LOUD!! Fane speakers are bloody good.

Paul

well i have been doing sound system for 5 years for sound offs (nothing above 145 db)

i have probably owned more subs than anyone else on this site (bold statement but read my ice setup one to find out i own about 30+ subs)

for £140 i get a 2400watt peak 4 ohm 4 inch voice coil 15.6 kg 18" sub which is one of the only subs i have not blown up

Now i challenge anyone on this site to find a sub with a better spec for less money and be as loud. you can read the spec of a fane clossus 18b on the link about and i got the one up from that (xb)

Now this thing eats 10 and 12 inchs and most 15" below £200

I been speaking to arundalep and he thinks its got good spec

p.s sorry my sub dont have any nice pictures on it or a neon built in!
