Apparently you can pick up decommissioned Trident nuclear subs very reasonably these days...........

Having a 10 and a 15 together is possible but is VERY VERY difficult to make them sound good. Really this should only be considered if you are willing to buy seperate amps, eq's and crossovers. You need to stop them from interfering with each other, this is no easy task.

You would get better sound from a 10 inch sub in a good box (not a wedge shaped off the shelf style).

I am currently trying to build a 6th order quasi bandpass box that will use the spare wheel well for some of the volume. Believe me it is proving troublesome.

Good luck.

Good luck.

Well the kicker would be a good sub to go for

I got a 18" fane sub and it does the trick

You could put 2 10" subs in and i do like longmill (had plenty of them)

Erm i got a 12" sub sony for sale £35" with box and crossover but you live in leeds and bit far

I am up there next week to pick allows up

Sounds cool (what exactly is it ?)- will be worth it in the end

6th order enclosures are trick as f&^k. They are very efficient in that you do not need high powers to get large db's. It is really to be very linear and thus be very high quality to go with the Carbon Fiber enclosures for the doors. It will be worth the effort once it is finished and tuned.

SW1 u have mail!

Have you got any pics of a 6th box as i am quite interested!

Because i have sold sony sub to swm1 (hopefully) without a box

I have a nice 12" box with crossover and a 12" earthquake sub with slight damage

box and sub £30 ono

If you listen to dance then you should go for 10" subs, as 10"ers are more punchy, but if you need to have prolonged base then you need a 15" sub.

Will post some pics when its finished.

Cheers

Paul

Isn't the boot small enough for you guys anyway!!!!

signed ...old fart!

seriously though, wher do you find to put your subs in these cars - I swapped my Saab 9000 for a z and I can't get over the lack of boot space still!

That's why I am building a 6th Order Quasi Bandpass sub box. It wont take over my boot too much as it uses the wheel well for some of the volume.

I will post details and photos when it is done.

Paul.

I don't have a Zimmer frame to put in the boot!!:D

for who saw my boot at bonley, i have not got one (taken over by a 18")

I had a idea of taking the spare wheel out and stuff so the box would be bigger and put thew wheel in the box?

What ya think (i of cource not seel the top so i could not get the wheel out)

Get rid of the wheel, loads of cars dont have them now. Use tyre weld , slime and compressor or the RAC.

As Paul says above ... loose the wheel and the tool kit.

Join the RAC.

It's a £79 mod :D.

I am with the RAC

Dont trust them,

...and you trust that yellow rock hard fiesta excuse for a tyre in the boot :D :D. Think of your street cred. Would you rather bring the car home on a flat bed truck or with a yellow herbie goes banana's wheel on your pride and joy :D

HEHE (erm thought about something else to say but could not think of anything else but HEHE and i am now off to buy a bananana)

Bigger, much bigger and much better!!! 6th order way to trick!!

Paul (Speaker Geek)

thanks for all the posts people ime still un sure what to get ime thinking 2 JL audio 12 WO`s any good

sorry it has been a while but i have been up to the lakes for the bank holiday

Can someone explain exactly what a 6th order box is all about - is this a make, or a trade name or some other kind of thing?

As for efficiency of a sub, the key to this is your own hearing ability. Your ears are unlikely to pick up anything below 20hz, which is well low, so if you're after extreme lows, you need to find a speaker and amp package that can deliver the dbs right down there. There are planty of subs that bottom out around 35hz or so, this is still quite low- but not extreme.

For the record, the punch you get from a standard Rock bass drum is normally about 80 - 100hz and a typical rule of thumb is to look for a speaker that can go twice as low as the frequency you want to hear (so that it can pick up the primary harmonics).

Too much bass below about 40hz and you will not be able to hear the reat of the music, or concentrate on driving and you may find you get headaches - big time.

Incidentally, if you manage to get a speaker that can go down to 7hz, this is the resonant frequency of your internal organs - expect to experience acute nausea, vomiting and uncontrolled bowel movements!

Enjoy!

Sorry, probably worth mentioning that I was a professional Sound Engineer for around 15 years (just in case youy wondered if I made all that stuff up!)
