OUT TO DINNER MATHEMATICS

This is pretty neat how it works out.

DON'T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN FIRST

It takes less than a minute.......

Work this out as you read.

Don't cheat and read the bottom until you've worked through it!

This is fun!

1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like

to have dinner out. (try for more than once but less than 10)

2. Multiply this number by 2 (Just to be bold)

3. Add 5. (for Sunday)

4. Multiply it by 50 - I'll wait while you get the

calculator................

5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1753.... If

you haven't, add 1752..........

6.. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.

You should have a three digit number ..

The first digit of this was your original number

(I.e., how many times you want to have eat out each week.)

The next two numbers are...

YOUR AGE! (Oh YES, it IS!!!!!)

THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR (2003) IT WILL EVER WORK, SO SPREAD IT AROUND

WHILE IT LASTS. IMPRESSIVE, ISN'T IT?

He he nice one! :D

I'm sure there was a 2002 one last year, and a 2001 one the year before, etc etc, just tweaking the figures....

Very clever tho :cool: .

Pete

yes it works ;)

Yes, it works for any year previous or in the future, you just need to add 1 for future years or subtract 1 for previous year to the X.

i.e.

N * 2 + 5 * 50 + X - Y

N = 2 to 9

X = (IF YEAR = 2003 {1753 or 1752})

(IF YEAR = 2002 {1752 or 1751})

(IF YEAR = 2004 {1754 or 1753})

Y = YOB

And that makes sense ?!:eek: :eek:

I mean do you know why it works ?

ok, here goes.....

using smw1's formula

n * 2 + 5 * 50 + x - y

written in proper algebra (no offense intended)

50(2n + 5) + (x - y)

which also equates to

100n + 250 + (x - y)

"x - y" always comes out at your age - 250 (try it)

so therefore we are left with...

100n + 250 + age - 250

or..

100n + age

whatever you chose as n is the number of hundreds and your age is the number of units.

simple when you know how...

Arh algebra, that takes me back to school days when I used to sit there in maths looking at Miss Stevens considerable assets.

hmmmm......

And for those of you into statistic too,

did you know that if you took all the forum members who fell asleep trying to calculate this to one side and laid them out end to end then....

they would have been much more comfortable!

:confused:
