Pop, pop, pop, BANG, pop, BANG, smoke, stall, pop, pop, pop, stop. FECK!

That was my car just as I pulled off a roundabout.

Lots of pops, a few very loud bangs, followed by a smoke screen that Spy Hunter would be proud of (for all the old computer game nuts out there ;)) stalled.

And the engine wouldnt do anything after that.

2 hours later the RAC arrive, I get the car home, ECU code 21, the dredid PTU.

I take it off, read up on how to fix it and Andy says clean it. I did, started up first time.

I also think I have a MAS problem too cos the car wouldnt go over 2500rpm before it conked out.

Bet you any money now, if I take it for a drive anywhere, it will stop working again. :(

Should I take the risk. Cos it could have just been bad connections. The connectors where all yellow.

I think the 2500 rpm thing might be 'limp home' mode where the ECU knows its in trouble and gives default settings or something.

Yeah thats what it usually is.

Its not too bad really cos 2500rpm is 70-80mph ish Its just pulling off a lights you feel like a granny. I think mine had enough and stopped my car all together. :(

Anyway. Got it home cleaned the PTU went for a drive. Its great. It idle is so smooth and quiet now. Much better than before.

If the ECU detects a problem with the MAS it limits engine revs to 2400rpm.

The strange thing was though, it would change the level. Most of the time it was 2500rpm at a guess, and other times I could goto 3000 rpm or 3600rpm before it did it.

Never mind it seems to be working now. I am just glad it went when I was going slow. Having it stall on the motorway doing 70 in the outside lane is not a thought I want to live.

When I saw this thread title I thought it was going to be all about the new record by Dr Dre and Snoop Dog ;)
