Power Steering Prob

the hi capacity or hi pressure line that runs from the pumpp to the rack has sprung a leak ........ will not leak uinder normal use .. just when under pressure.

when i was searching for the leak i peeled back the foam which surrounds it .... find a joint ... joint is where the leak is... found it by holding the steering on full lock .....

is there surposed to be a join on this line WTF is it doing there either way ?

i can simply take it to a hydralic shop and get a similar pipe made up pref out of braided hoses !!! end of problem ?

how easy to bleed rack after ?

will the fluid run out of resivoir when pipe is diconnected ... then i have to bleed hicas ?

lots of questions i know

any help much appreciated :)

Yeah the join is perfectly normal - if we can tell putting it there was a bad idea then why didn't nissan ffs? Just take it to a hydraulic shop and get it repaired - £150 inc vat from Nissan UK for a new one  The fluid shouldn't run out because the pipe goes from the pump, not the reservoir. You'll have to take the drivers side boost hoses off to get to the pump banjo bolt (don't forget you'll need new crush washers). The other end of the pipe can be fiddly - get the front of the car as high as you can and make sure no fluid drips in your eyes ;) Threading the metal pipe over the crossmember and under the sump can be a bit tricky but just twist/push/pull and it does go...

You shouldn't need to bleed the rack - I've never had to....

Thats all I can think of....

Just to add to what Andy has said having replaced a few of these expect to pay between £25 and £35 for the replacement pipe which will NOT have what looks like a joint in it but is actually a bend former to give the pipe support on keep it the right shape unfortunately as this was crimped onto the pipe it actually digs in and slices the pipe ? well done Nissan eh?
