Hi Guys,

Since I've had the car I've noticed that not only are the main light a little dull as we all know, but the dash lights behind the dials are also a little on the dull side. I thought I may have a light out or something but I couldn't see any dark areas from looking at the dials. The adjustable light dimmer does work and is set to max.

I took my dash apart yesterday to fit my carbon fibre dial surround. I thought I'd check the bulbs while I was at it. All the main bulbs were working fine but I did notice that they all had blue plastic sleeves over them. I imagine this is a heat protective film. But I don't understand why it's blue rather then clear ?.

Anyone know what these are ?. I've taken it off for now and will be waiting for my dash board to set fire while driving at night. It's one hell of a lot brighter and I can actually see the dials very clearly.

Thanks

It could be that someone wanted to make the light blue-ish in colour? You do know that you can adjust the brightness of the dials with a rocking switch?

The covers are to make the light blue and diffuse it so you don't get sharp cut-offs and shadows behind the dials.

You will probably notice the gauges look more white than blue now...

If you want to make them blue again just get some blue nail varnish and put a couple of coats on (on your bulbs, not your nails!)

To be honest I can't remember them looking very blue to start with, but they do look a lot brighter now :).

Mate how big were the bulbs and how many? I was gonna take my dash out and replace them with LEDS but i cant find 12v LEDs to replace them with..looks like some resistor + solder work! Unless LEDS are not bright enough!

took my side cluster things apart yesterday and they had the same blue stuff one them, I pulled it all off as it was stopping any light getting through.. maybe its a "feature" on some jap cars?!?!!

not bad but Maplins gotta have somethin similar being the inquisitive bargain hunter i is!

LOL advantage with those are they already have the resistor installed - literally plug and play :)

AS long as you get them the right way round ;)

u dont knacker them by putting them the other way though do u..im usre i had a mishap and did so but it was ok..I read something about forward 12v reverse 5v...could of got lucky i guess..but at 18p an LED im not gonna grumble!
