What is the advised route to go. My manual gearbox 3rd synchro is kaput.

Would you recommend a total rebuild, what are the costs? Is it best to to replace all the synchros? or should I go for a 2nd hand unit.

All advice appreciated.

Cheers

Martin

I would go for a rebuild, the problem with 2nd hand boxes are that you never know the condition of them and they are difficult to find!

Rebuild every time Martin, like clueless says you don't know what you are buying;)

Tell me about it !

Looking for a dead one myself, for a rebuild right now.

Me too. Never done a gearbox before, has to be a first time for everything !

no chance, I just don't have the space or tools (live in a flat).

what parts am I gonna need and how much will it cost?

bearings, syncos & seals/gaskets as a matter of course i would say - other worn parts as ness after inspection.

thanks Paul, anything else worth doing while the gearbox is dropped?

uprated clutch & lightweight flywheel? ;)

crankshaft rear main oil seal, gearbox mount, gear lever bushes?

Superb thanks for the answers. I had a new ap racing paddle clutch put in not long ago and I havent been overly impressed with the engagement, the flywheel wasn't skimmed at the time even tho I asked for it to be done, the garage said it was in fine condition

Would a new flywheel be ok without a new clutch?

i promise this is my last question (for now anyway) ;)

Cheers

Martin

unless the flywheel is heavily grooved, im sure it would bed in ok - might be worth just replacing the clutch plate if in doubt.

Good luck!! :)
