Well mines the same as a UK car.

But then, you will have the '99 spec so I'mnot sure if there is a plate holder on the front of that.

As far as I know it's only the rear plates that vary between models.

yea, im sure the later types are smaller??

like stu says - its for the 99 front end

Geoff (tanzx) has got a tiny one.......number plate that is on his 99 spec, maybe he can let you know what you need.:D

Cheers,

F.T.

Mine is standard size but has 66mm letters (motorbike size) to match the back. Looks close enough to standard for no-one to take a second look and as far as I understand, because it's an import it's still legal. ;)

Legally, plate sizes are here. They appear to relate to the number of letters / numbers you need (eg A1 can be a smaller plate than G10 XXX)

Also, if your import "cannot accomodate standard size number plates" you can have smaller letters / numbers:

On the face of it, since there is no problem with attaching a normal size plate to the front like UK models, you cannot use the smaller letters on the front.

But it would be quite OK to use smaller letters on the rear since J model plates are different size and the cutout in the rear bumper clearly "cannot accomodate standard size number plates".

Aaaand

The British Standard Number (currently BS AU 145d)

The name, trade mark, or other means of identification of the manufacturer or component supplier. (The company who actually make the number plate.)

The name and postcode of the supplying outlet. (The 'supplying outlet' is taken to mean a company whose business consists wholly or partly of selling number plates.)

A non-reflective border and the Euro-symbol with the national identification letters are optional additions.

There shall be no other markings or material contained on the number plate

So (legally) no slogans, no logos, no silly borders etc. And if you put the BS No on a plate which isn't BS you're probably breaking another law! So you can't lie.

All the above is for one of two reasons

a) to ensure that drivers are legally protected by the correct identification of their vehicle in case of theft

or

b) to make sure that number plates are easily readable by speed cameras, congestion charge cameras, the boys in blue and big brother.

(tick box which applies)

Cheers ;) Gio
