Define, haunting.

Sounds like everything needs a clean. Start by cleaning the water temp sensor.

Ah, the coolant temp sensor..........that little bugger is responsible for alot! Good way to tell if its faulty is if your little elec fan is permanently running.

Mine tends to sort of "miss a beat" occasionally when its been outside all night and its very cold in the morning, ticks over fine for say 5 or 6 seconds then has a very tiny "miss" then carries on as normal, drives perfect when moving either hot or cold.

I thought maybe plugs or coil pack connectors, ill have to clean all the connectors under the bonnet me thinks ( why not, ive cleaned everything else under the bonnet!!).

Having said that my temp sensor is held on with a cable tie!!!! but it stops the fan randomly comming on!!!

If you are going to clean any of the connectors that are close to/ attached to the engine be very careful not to break them, as they get very brittle due to the extreme heat under the bonnet.

Continually recurring to the mind; unforgettable: a haunting melody.
