Once the autobox is sorted I'm considering the Shift At Will kit available from an outfit in Sweden. It's on a thread on here somewhere but the details on my PC at home sorry.

Has anyone got this or have any feedback they can give. The site has a video of the kit in use. It seems to be a perfect match between manual and automatic.

Thanks

TT Tim has this on his car, I think his is the one and only, I was planning on mine being the 2nd!

(Tim.......have pm'd you)

BRILLIANT!

Just about sums it up.

With a neat install it looks like OE equipment. There is comprehensive control over the auto box changes, tc lock up and similar. In addition there are also useful displays such as 0-60 timer, Battery voltage, Oil Temp, throttle position etc etc.

If you're serious have a word with Maciej, from my dealings with him he's a top bloke, very helpful and efficient.

You can download the installation and instruction manuals from his web site: http://www.ess-racing.com

Will be sorry not to be the only one, but this is an excellent system and, as you say, a good compromise between auto and manual.

I'm sure I could set mine up slightly better, just need to find some more time, there are just so many settings!

Tim

Sounds interesting - how much does it cost?

Thanks guys.

Tim that sounds like a pretty strong endorsement.

I've read through the instructions several times but often they don't convey the whole story. Anything to look out for when fitting ?

I've seen a nice steering wheel in my local Halfords (cheesy place I know) that has two buttons fitted into the leather spokes that would be perfect. Any doubts that I couldn't use something like that ?

Once again thanks.

IF you have a TT then you may lose the HICAS as its part of the steering wheel - The cruise control as well would need to go somewhere else.

A few people here have found replacements that allow the HICAS to stay - have a search around.

Nothing really to look out for when fitting, just the usual when messing about with such a complicated car. Triple check everything that you connect/solder.

I, personally, like the standard look so I have fitted the shift buttons on the rear of the steering wheel behind the spokes, I find my fingers are in just the right place, but I am playing with the idea of making a couple of paddles with microswitches.

I can't see any reason why you couldn't use one of those steering wheels you're talking about with the buttons, but as has been said, you will loose HICAS, but I believe that you can get a BOSS that means you can fit aftermarket wheels and retain HICAS.

When carrying out the install, I would recommend that you fit an inline connector between the control unit and the ECU so that its easy, if necessary, to remove the control unit just by unplugging it, there's plenty of room under the stereo.

The Cruise Control, functions as normal with the car in 'AUTO' so there really is no need to relocate the Cruise. The only reason that it is used is that it makes it a lot easier tapping into two existing wires from the steering wheel to the ECU, I thought about addine new wires to retain cruise control functions when in 'MANUAL' but just could not work out how to do it successfully, I guess Maciej did this too! :D

I also fitted the Gear Disply in the Instrument binnacle, again for that OE look.

Pic Here!

As for complaints, not any really, the only one I have, and I've said this to Maciej, is that I think the characters on the display could heve been smaller, more in keeping with the original clock, but that is just a very small 'niggle' on a very impressive and relatively inexpensive product.

Tim, i would love to have a closer look at that stuff on your car, are you going to the bolney meet on the 26th or may i have to wait till billing, i have always been very interested in the shift at will thing, espacially the way you can hide most of the bits and bobs thus making it look stock.

Also, does it make the car feel quicker/ more responsive?
