Some advice please:

I have a j spec 1990 TT, when my fog lights are on I cannot see any indicator light on the dash board.

1) Sould there be a light on/in the switch?

2) Should there be a light on the light panel under the speedo?

3) If neither what have people done so as to pass the MOT since on is required?

You don't need the front fogs to have an illuminated switch fro the MOT, only the back. Jap imports don't have rear fogs, so you will need to fit one, and wire in an illuminated switch into the dashboard somewhere.

Thanks,

I should have said that both my fron and my rear fogs are operated by the front fog light switch. Hence the problem as there is no indicator light.

I am thinking of fitting an LED into the switch but does anyone have a better suggestion please?

I don't think there IS a better suggestion! Thats what I have done and thought is was the best possible solution.

Thanks James - I assume that it was quite easy - but any hints or tips would be most welcome.

There's an indicator light in my front fog switch.

I had one set of reverse lights turned into rear fogs with a separate switch fitted which lights up when swithed on.

Geoff.

It was pretty straight forward, pop out the switch, drill a little hole, fix led behind and pick up the output from the switch.

I must get a dig camera, I could show you mine then!

I'm gonna get one lunchtime! :D

I thought there was some sort of law against having the front and rear on the same switch.

Can anyone clear this up ?

Yes you are not allowed the front and rear fogs on the same switch but tell a dodgy importer that!

My Jap Z has the indicator light on the front fog switch in the right hand "pod". In a UK Z this switch is for rear fogs only.

Another switch was added in the edge of the instrument cluster for the rear fog lights.

Where/what is the law/regulation that says you can't have front and rear fogs on the same switch. Not doubting the previous post, but would like to know where such laws/regulations are as there are also several other items pertaining to imports where there seems to be some dubiety, i.e. Japanese tyres, bulbs etc.

My MOT tester only specified that I had to have a visual warning light for fogs being on, he didn't mention seperate warning lamps for front and rear. Maybe I was lucky?

My Focus only allows the rear fogs if the front fogs are already on (progressive switch). Can't be illegal to have both on the same switch or all Focii(sic) would be in trouble.

On the other hand my Cortina doesn't have any fogs - and rightly so - nowhere to put them!

My Jap TT has a nice illuminated fog switch to the side of the light switch pod.
