Anyone on here owned a GTO or considered a GTO, and drove one?

What did you think of it, what was it like in comparison to a zed?

Featured Replies

Some one on here had a GTO before changing to a Z.

From what I hear its a very detached drive. I wanted one before I looked at Zs and I decided to go with a Z.

I think its the only Japanese Super Car that is heavier than the Z.

With the 4WD (55%front 45%rear) you lose alot of power to the wheels.

It will outperform a Z on the twisty roads but not on a straighter road. And where is the only place you really get a chance to foor it? Motorways, dual carrageways which are not twisty.

I went and had a look at one when i got rid of my first zed, i gotta say i liked the look of the inside, but the outside put me off by having no t bars and also they look quite big untill you get close to them then they dont. Plus if i'd have bought it i would have been exiled from 300zx.co.uk and I like it here!!

The guy I bought my Z from (who I still talk to now and then) has just got a GTO, it came up for the right price, not because he particularly wanted one. I asked him what it as like and he said while it looked ok, it was nothing like the Z, he said you could hardly compare the 2.

The person who I bought my Z from bought a GTO. 400bhp I think it was.

Dont know why. The Z is alot easier to mod than a GTO and 450bhp is not far off.

No chance will a GTO outperform pretty much any other Jap performance mark on twistys or not, just because its 4 wheel drive does not mean it handles better than a rea wheel drive car?

they are very heavy -steering is crap (i have tested one ) not a nice car at all, even though they look good. but no chance it would out handle a zed.

Well well have to wait and see wont we lol ;)

I know a guy who owns a GTO & he recently told my brother that he thinks that I have the better car, i.e. the Zed is best.

This guy is quite arrogant & to hear him say something like that is very rare! :D

I was looking at a GTO before buying the Zed too.. tot the looks of GTO was killer.. Had heard from counterparts in US that more than 70%of GTOs are still in showroom...

I think the GTO looks really good too. The later models have the red tape over the lights to make it look like its got quad lights but looks really tacky.

The front looks good and the back looks good but to me the front and the back dont look good together, if you get what I mean.

Stuart

I went and looked at one before the Zed.

I didn't even drive it cos the interior was so tacky I hated it.

It reminded me of a school disco and weird science :p

There was no headroom either.

The car also feels loads bigger than the Zed, bad thing when the Zed is more than big enough.

Here is the silly thing though. They put blue ones on the blue cars.

Still looks shit though.

I WANTED A GTO AND WENT TO AN IMPORTER HE HAD A COUPLE OF GTO AND 300ZX'S

WAS GIVEN THE KEYS FOR GTO WENT OUT GAVE IT A THRASHIN FOUND IT SKIPPED ROUND TIGHT CORNERS AND WAS NOT THAT QUICK.

NEXT I DROVE THE 300ZX SMOOTHER QUICKER AND WENT ROUND THE SAME CORNERS LIKE IT WAS ON RAILS. SO A BOUGHT THE 300ZX.

I STILL LIKE THE GTO BUT THE 300ZX HAS THE BETTER PERFORMANCE.

OWNED SAME 300ZX FOR LAST 6 YEARS.

Hizus, I think youve forgot to turn the caps lock off after shouting at me on the spark plugs thread!!;)

:p

I looked at GTO's B4 I changed to the Z but what made my mind up was that the insurance for a GTO is a lot higher than the Z. My Z costs me 500 a year, a GTO was gonna be nearer 1000 quid, there was no way the wife was gonna wear that increase in the insurance.

I liked the thought of 4WD though, as the Z can be quite scarey in the wet.

Anyways just my 2p's worth.

LOL Eric!! :D:D Mind if I save that one onto my harddrive for future use ;) ?!

I've looked at GTOs before - but I prefer the 300ZX looks. The GTO never got great press either and I've often been told that their unreliable.

May be we should stop looking over our shoulders.

Take pride and confidence in the 300ZX for it's great performance and looks and its easy to maintain.

Stick with 300ZXs!!!!

Geoff.

All women are hard to maintain, that is why the Z seems easy ;)
