We live in a democracy. That's better than anarchy and a dictatorship, so accept it and vote against the government if you're not happy.

If protests are the way to go, should we have an unworkable system where we all vote on all issues ?

Also, the influence of protestors is an attempt to bully the authorities, by a minorty creating disproportionately big problems and media attention. The thousands who protest pale into insignificance against the millions who are happy with the status quo.

Also aren't protestors affecting the human rights of those they cause problems to ??

It annoys me that those against make out that the country is not for this war - more are for it in the polls than against.

End of Rant.

Agree entirely. I've heard people say "A million people protesting about the war can't be wrong..." But 57 million people DIDN'T protest!! Bloody hippy lefties!

I wonder what the country would be like if the government give in to protestors regularly?

Pete

PS No offense meant to any "bloody hippy lefties" on here :):D

Oh dont even go there lol, youll have one person come and complain and it will all be lost :D:D

Rule of thumb is if someone s happy with something they generally tell 1-2 people, if someone is unhappy with something , they tell 12-14 people its human nature, i mean all the little uni students and hippies and school kids probably have nothing better to do lol (school kids get a free day out)(Uni STUDENTS LMAO No explanation needed lol)(Hippies :D sigh ere do you even start)

But it is the right of people to demonstrate, so let them, look at this poll http://Http://www.skynews.co.uk

Are you suggesting that democracy means the opportunity to vote once every four years. And that you're happy to get one vote to cover every issue on which you have an opinion.

Personally, protestors normally wind me up. But I respect (a) their ability to do so (in a non disruptive manner) and (b) the fact that they are prepared to get off their backsides to stand up for what is right. I'm generally too lazy to do anything myself whether I agree or not. And that is why I believe you get 1 million expressing a view and 57 million not.

I do NOT support any disruptive protestors. Is that what you're referring to ?

Dabe

LMAO :D I pissed myself laughing at the hunt protestors when they were calling on the government NOT to ban hunting. London should stay out of the coutryside cos they don't understand was their complaint. Ok then does that mean the government can have all the money back from the foot and mouth compensation??? They obviously don't want it! Like a bunch of kids crying cos they're having they're not allowed sweets b4 dinner IMO - they looked PATHETIC!!!

Won't anyone talk to you in your office Nelson?

I guess ppl have the right to protest (non-disruptively) but when they make out that they represent the country, it annoys me.

I support hunt sabboteurs, because I think hunting is cruel and should be banned. The difference here is that hunting is only done by a minority?.

Not sure if that makes me a hypocrite ??

If I saw you as a hunt sabboteur I'd have great pleasure in blowing your bollox off with a 12 gauge! They are no better than terrorists.

If you want proof the HS 'liberated' the local hound pack in Wye, Kent. Upon realising that these were not pets and could not be rehomed they killed them!

Reminds me of the Spitting Image sketch with two Animal Liberation members chatting in a bar about how they'd 'hurt' this bloke, they decided the best way would be to kill his dog because that would really upset him.

No I'm not pro hunt, but I would defend everyone's right to choose what they want to do (within the confines of the law) - Into a civil liberties issue here!

You have a great gift Nelson. The ability to really F**K me off!

Class LOL:D :D So killing a HS is OK ?! I would never condone animal rights activists who hurt people, but helping foxes escape from being ripped apart makes me somehow more human than you ;) :D :D Note - I am not a HS - just approve of their actions

Really ?? Good argument.

There are names for people like you Nelson, but I expect the swear filter would edit it!.

People are barbaric, there are no excuse for some of the actions of the human race, we are meant to be educated and supposedly, have the ability to be analytical in our reasoning.

I think that killing you might be seen as a mercy killing! :D

I take offence to this post and I shall be stopping trains, roads and recruiting teenage school children who just jump on any band waggon that is popular to help me in my fight to rid this world of this post ;) ;) ;)

Stuart

I dunno, maybe im making this too simple BUT if your in business and you can take over another business and make money you do it. If your a boxer and can beat someone else to a pulp to further your ranking you do it. So if you can invade a country because youve got all the toys and money to do it, and in doing so can make alot of money and end a possible threat why cant you do it?

Its a dog eat dog world and we (the 52nd State of good ol USA) have the biggest teeth.

Too right, North Korea are fvckin' next then the rest of the world!!! Ha ha haaaaaaaa

To take this back on topic...

Why do people protest?

Because even though it is a democracy, the 'common man' does not have a voice.

I did not vote for Blair in the last elections. So I exercised my democratic right to vote. But it does rather seem that whatever side of the house you sit goes out of the window sometimes. What was it 120 Labour MPs voted against the government on the last vote?

So, what is the point of living in a democracy when even members of his cabinet disagree and the only thing that we hear is the 'Tony Blair is very angry'. Wasn't the Gnome just exercising his right to voice his opinion, wasn't that why he was elected as an MP, to be 'our' voice?

People protest because the system is flawed, and if you are that angry you feel that you must do something to express your opinion.

Tim

In fact I dont mind the war. Im sorry but Im honest! Maybe im stuck up me own arse but it doesnt have any implications on my life. If it does in the future I will worry about it then BUT FFS get it off the telly!

FFS last night consisted of THE WAR, WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN AFTER THE WAR, WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN AFTER THE NEXT WAR oh and a classic, another chance to see the story of the last Gulf War, and a luvly romantic doc on Mrs T and the Falklands!

Thank god I bought a PS2 so I can play more war!
