ok, done the normal searching and found LOADS of info, all helpful and has allowed me to remove instrument cluster, to the point of the connectors going into back of cluster (im changing dials) and after spending the last 2 hours in a cold garage trying, cannot for the life of me get the connectors off. Im paranoid because the are all part of the mylar sheet, dont fancy rippimg/breaking that!

soooo........... is there and easy way if disconnecting them, either brute force of daintily. no real play there because all the looms are quite tight, spend most of the time looking through screen and contorting myself like a chimp but no joy.

anyone done this (obviously) and how did you overcome it. Any help appreciated.......

(breeze block through screen me thinks a not good idea - but could get to them REAL easy)

just changed mine over today...

there are small tabs to squeeze in the middle of the connectors, and you have to squeeze them as near to the cluster as possible as there's some plastic in the way. Once you've got these pressed down they slide off easily:)

hope this helps

James

when I took them off I had the cluster tilted upwards and to the right and removed the connecters starting from the left... gets easier as you go then

And youre a doctor??You should be good at fixing things, glad your not operating on me!!!;)

these things can be a bastard. The 2 connectors on the top for the warning lamps are pretty near impossible to get off, i spent 45 mins trying and in the end i broke them off.

The connectors on the back are much easier, tip the cluster up, squeeze the little tabs as hard as you can (recommend not having long finger nails unless you want to break em lol) with one hand and pull with the other, dont worry abour the sheet its pretty tough just dont use a screwdriver or something

Oh yeah, and I would recommend you do NOT try to remove the needles, that trick cost me a speedo ;)

No use bum licking vicky now clarkey mate, your cards marked, she'll get you for that pic, just you wait!!!

There you go tony, hopefully that'll keep her busy!!

Clarkey,

What's the score with the needles then?

Vijay

thanks folks, i will attemp to get disconnect them again this morning, and post the results later - fanx.

the needles, you try to pull it out gently, then it comes off, bringing the spindle out with it, you can try to put it back in but it doesnt work, the speedo is dead.

and someone was complaining about clothed women on the site and yet we have language like this.. outrageous!!!

hi folks, job done - what a nightmare!! basically very gently 'rocked' each connector back and forth until free, but very, very time consuming and tedious.

main gits were not on back of cluster, buth the white jobbies which clip onto the outer surface top left/right, really really unwilling to release.

Dials now changed to different colour, and delimiter in place - really gonna miss the binging:D :D :D

quite scary using cruise at 110mph+ when only 70mph before.

thankyou all for your help

cant post pics yet - STILL waiting for an update:rolleyes:

clarkey, they kinda slide on runners into each other, the loom is on top and the runners underneath are screwed onto top of cluster, became quite apparent they were not moving, so forced a terminal driver (carefully) under top connectors into runners and prized them apart (even that was hard) and fortunately they simply slid back together on reassembly.

hardest thing i've done on her so far, but BLOODY proud i've done it myself, not to say i was cacking myself when i pulled away the first time after fitting, and the needle didn't move at all, being kph it moved straight away 10 - 20 - 30, but strange to see it move so slow after so long now its mph.

not much hope of me hitting 180 on speedo now (unless downhill behind a nova with increased bhp neons:D :D :D )
