Hi people,

my PS doesnt work, it occasionally starts again but then stops:confused:

i thought to maybe change the pump, but then if the pump was gone then would it act erratically like this?

Could it be an electrical prob? if any1 has any ideas please let me know!

thanks

jaz

Dicky speed sensor can do this, does the hicas light come on at the same time?

speed sensor or a speedo playing up,would say high probability on either

cheers fellas,

any idea where the speed sen or speedo is?

there used to be an online manual b4?

jaz

If my memory serves me right it fits into side of gearbox, about 3-4inches long 1inch diameter, tube like,!

cheers Tony!

LOL Clarkey - i thought there might be something else also refered to as a 'speedo'! DOH!

jaz

oight lads,

manual says the sensor is in the dash or behind??

can any of u guys confirm this?? Tony whats ur call on this?

cheers

jaz

Speed defenders/ converters are behind the speedo, speed sensors are on the gearbox.

Is yours auto or manual?

Just dont ask me how to remove them, I leave that to the experts!!!:D :D :D

Not an expert but I had the speed sensor changed on my old Z and it is an under the car job and it is on the gearbox, it's a pig of a job to do but it's just a case of unplug, undo and replace with new sensor, tighten and plug in but you need small child like hands to get at it..........

Trying to help! :)

Matty.

Nice1 guys!

its an auto by the way!

il get my nephew round tmrw!:D :D

Jeff at Zedworld did mine in less than 20 mins, probabaly done so many he's got it down to fine art,he showed me the state of it when he took it off,the small crown wheel on sensor was well worn, only made of plastic no wonder they wear out!

..........I had the speed sensor fitted and that made some difference to my autobox but only for a while so I had it flushed, it was pukka for about 40 miles then on my way to Billing........died in a big way!!

So I'm 2 grand lighter and now zedless...........as I had to sell the Z to pay for a new autobox, good deal though as it was a Zero miles autobox all spanky new!

Okay, I'm off the point but I'll get back to it now.............

My power steering went funny a couple of times, lumpy like but it went away only happened a couple of times, went through the local car wash (cleans underside too) and it stopped both times and was okay for about 3 months until I sold it but I have noticed that Keith (who bought my Z) has having some work done to the power steering, hence I think your problem might be pump and the pipes that run the fluid.

Worth getting them checked out.............

And do I get the award for the most long winded post for not getting to the point quick enough??

Now I'm shutting up............

Matty.

It's only two wires from the loom and three form the device. I think Jeff mounts them behind the Dash so, which is harder to get to but easier to determin what wires you need to patch into.

But it's easier to patch it into the ECU if you know what wires you need to splice and cut.

smw1,i take it you mean the speed converter and not the speed sensor!:p

lol matty, il also have a look at the pump

yeah Stu, do u mean the converter or the sensor? cos i think we confirmed that the sensor is on the gearbox....

jaz

He's talking about the convertor ;) I'm also currently looking at a problem like this on another car. As far as I can see, without it being a mechanical fault, it could either be:-

Dodgy pressure valve

Dodgy speed sensor

Dodgy control unit

It *could* also be the speedo not passing its signal out - the speed signal goes to the speedo first and then to the rest of the car...

I'll let you know how I get on....

CheerZ,

Andy
