Sign up thread for the August 23rd to 26th Bank Holiday weekend at Fat Lamb Inn, Ravenstonedale, located between the Lake District, North Pennines and the Yorkshire Dales.

Dates voted for

The venue is great, with warm welcome and brilliant food. I think we all put on a few lbs last time  as well as throughly enjoying the driving to, from and around.

Previous visit we stayed 2 nights, with a great drive around the North Pennines on the Sunday, and general consensus was we need another day/night to make best use of the journey from the south, and appreciate the roads and scenery.

So this time, we have reserved a 4 day/3 night weekend, although you also have the flexibility to book just 2 nights if that suits you better.

Prices are for 2 people bed, breakfast and 3 course evening meal at the AA 4* rated hotel.

2 nights £290

3 nights £435

Reservations are first come first served basis with deposit direct with the venue.

Call Paul on 015396 23242 to book in and then update your details below with which days, so that we can work out the best events for each day.

There are plenty of interesting locations around where we can arrange a route with tourist stops and/or just a day of driving and lunch fuel stops.

All to be arranged and confirmed over the coming months.

If all rooms are filled, Paul has another location nearby or can arrange with local hotels/B&B's, and still cater for everyone at the Lamb for the evening meals.

If you want to attend either or both days and make own arrangements, or live locally, that's great too. There are a few ideal spots to meet up at depending on which day/agenda you want to join.

just working on some routes and alternatives for the weekend.

any of you guys coming have any particular dislike for single track roads?

am using my bike satnav and "thrill route" feature to get us off the main roads for bank holiday weekend, but checking them out in google streetview to make sure they at least have tarmac on them

Tarmac would be good. I would like to do the kirkstone pass again but all the way into windermere, could be busy though. & try to find a few more stopping points for some good pictures.

i think the traffic through windermere will be a problem whichever way we go.

I have prepared a couple of different routes on my satnav, but trying to find stopping points where you can get decent pictures is a problem when you dont really know the area

the first one takes in Ribblehead Viaduct, Devils Bridge, and the Motor Museum, before returning back via some back roads and passes. (The struggle and kirkstone in reverse of the route we finished last year)

the next one goes in and out of Alston a couple of times, and up to Hadrians wall and avoids the lakes, with some minor roads with good views.

the other 2 are round the lakes taking in most of the main passes round the lakes, even the really tough ones, if we really want a challenge :whistling: and includes a pub stop at Wasdale Head which TonyB mentioned last year. the route range from 4-7 hours in total not including stops, so would be very weather and traffic dependent.

drive planned for both saturday and sunday, which is why we chose the bank holiday weekend originally

I'll keep an eye on the weather then! Hopefully this rain will end!

I wouldnt mind doing the same or similar route to last year.

i don't have it anymore. Paul from the hotel gave it to me as a printout, and i had Nikk reading the notes as we drove, but not sure Ayrton would be able to do the same.

The first part of the second route, going through Alston but coming down and missing out 3&4, is fairly similar.

Although Paul did say i can discuss routes with him Friday night, so will see what we can do.

Yeah, long range says 50% chance of showers over the whole weekend.

Might make the roads quieter, especially if we want to do some of the more obscure mountain passes ;)

Hi Guys,

I attended this event last year and it was great and I did have my name down for this year but unfortunately due to money circumstances (them being, I cant even afford a full tank of fuel right now) I'm sadly not going to be able to make it.

Hope you all have a great day and I'm sorry for the let down!

sorry to hear that, and i am sure we have all been there at some point in our lives, so no need to be sorry, there is no let down there

Me and Tom are heading up on Saturday, what time do we need to be there Craig?

depends which routes we want to do on each day, what type of roads and stops we want to do. we can discuss in the morning before we leave.

i was thinking to try and leave about 10am on saturday, maybe similar time on sunday if you are doing both days?

if you get there early, can also order dinner for the saturday evening so we can all eat together, if you were planning to do that as well?

Regarding the route, I'd prefer to avoid the challenging ones. The first route looks ok, we can get on the kirkstone pass in windermere to save heading towards Ambleside, going to be busy on that road like last time.

I'm happy to go wherever we go

What time you aiming for arriving friday craig?

yes, thats why i have tried to keep off main roads as much as i can. can certainly go up kirkstone on last leg and miss “the struggle” out of Ambleside, will just be a bit busy through Windermere, like you say

hopefully about 7:30 Ian, as long as i can finish work by 3

I left home around 11. Haven't rushed

About another 2 hours to go
