Hi Guys,

I need to get a valuation done on my long term project car (still off the road!) due to getting divorced. Frankly its been neglected for too long and is in a pretty sad state.

Its a SWB, Manual conversion, with a few mods - hasn't been on the road for years, has no interior, a knackered engine and gear box.

She thinks its a super car with many thousands - I need it not to be!

Any idea how to get it valued?

Cheers!

If she's clueless take all the expensive mods off, keep them stored, then raffle it off on ebay or get a scrappie to come collect the shell and split half with her. If she IS clued up on cars, then just sell it - but as a project you'll be lucky to get near 1k for it regardless of how many trick bits it has. That's the brutal truth bud.

Recently I got rid of a BB4 import prelude with TONNES of very expensive and very rare mods on it along with the 2ws rear subframe be for 30 quid and a 6-pack of corona. Breaking I could have probably breached 2k but it would have taken a long time.

Erm... I think you have little to worry about, take some pictures to show her how bad it is, and whilst your at it take a hard long look yourself from, your description I think the best you can expect is "unfinished project " money, which basically is a fraction of what you have spent.

The car has no road use value from what you say, needs many thousands spending in it, depending on the shell condition rust wise it is likely that is all you have saleable, sorry to be blunt, you know it could even be easier to say to her you have it, I want it collecting by such and such time here are the pics. might find then she is less interested.

Thanks Jeff, i think your right to be honest - thing is she doesnt want it, rather she is trying to use its "value" to trade against other assets.

i think its worth less than 500

sorry to hear of your woes, and the subsequent stupid argument down to the nitty gritty items of no real value. some of the lawyers actually encourage this tiny level of detail so that any movement is seen as a compromise, when in fact its just dragging their "billable time on case" by another few hours of correspondence.

i think you are right, and agree with Jeff.

it's a breaker at best at this point, as the only thing usable sounds like the shell and a few add-ons.

as a SWB manual, it could be considered as the more valuable of the models by some, but only within the small Zcommunity, not on a large scale classic car collectible basis.

get some pictures, and also go to ebay, facebook, etc and screenshot any adverts you can find for other shells, or breakers, include some completed listings, to give a view of what others have actually sold for. You will most certainly find some for £200-£400 i reckon.

this is the same type of activity you would take if you wanted to up the value for an insurance claim on a good car with low payout, just in reverse to give a truer and more accurate valuation of a shell.

best of luck

Thanks to everyone who has offered advice - some great stuff.

I tried we buy any car but it didn't recognise the reg and i could find it listed in the menu options - but ill try a few others.

Regarding solicitors arguing over niff naff - i am absolutely seeing this from her side ( i got a letter accusing me of taking a small pot of sugar - i kid you not) - i am trying to avoid it as we will spend thousands arguing over hundreds. its totally ridiculous and outrageous - the legal system in this country when it comes to these matters is totally unfit for purpose (but i digress...)

Anyway - thanks again to all!

Hi Mark,

I work in insurance for one of the older companies (RSA/Royal sunalliance). Whilst I'm not one of the engineers that value cars, I might be able to contact one of ours to find out how they'd value it.

As an insurance company, we generally use 'glasses guide' which brings through estimated values. It will of course then depend on the other things, like your knacked engine and gearbox etc.

. In situations where customers are unhappy with insurance claim amounts (layouts for total loss), we would ask customers to then go out and get market examples of what similar cars are going for.

If the solicitors need a professional report, they might take it from a professional in the trade such as Jimmer if that's something he'd be willing to do.

I think there was once a guy on the z-club that used to do insurance valuations too

Datascan, Conzult, ECUTalk and a few others

I have all the rare bits you can't find :tongue:
