Just wondering if you guys can offer some advice here.

My wife brought some stuff via Amozon. She received the order and all was well. A week later she received a text saying she owed customs duty. Not sure if this was a scam she ignored it. Then she received a letter. This was about three weeks ago. I’ve just asked her what the outcome was only to be told she’d forgotten about it.

So what do you guys think, scam, real, needs to pay or can forget about it as she’s got the goods?

Cheers,

Chris.

Usually (in Ireland anyway), the package is delivered by the postman / courier and they have a customs docket / pouch to collect on delivery, if they don’t collect, they take the parcel with them until duties are collected. I’d ignore until someone knocks on your door.

Who was the letter from?

Hi Andrew. It’s from FedEx. I can post a picture if it would help?

Fedex operate a system by which they pay the duty owed to HMRC on your behalf to speed customs clearance. They also

charge a £12 fee for doing so. The shipment number on the invoice should match the number on the packaging (if you still

have it) and the online tracking for the package.

There is a FAQ web address on the letter giving further details.

I have had the same letter for stuff shipped using Fedex from CZP and paid up when I got the letter. It is unlikely that Fedex

will forget to chase the outstanding payment.
