I've been helping a neighbour with his IS200 lexus. There was a scraping noise which I have found to be the disc catching the hub. I think someone has walloped the back wheel of a curb and bents things. But it could be a wheel bearing or an assembly mistake. It has done it for the r months he has owned the car.

You can see the plate with the wheel studs on it is positively cambered.

There is the scuffage.

Please suggest which parts could be causing this. I couldn't get it off because my hub puller kept slipping. But I think it may be the shaft not the hub. I tried to reseat it too in case it wasn't on all the way.

Not as you'd expect with a bearing. And it doesn't grumble. It just "skiffs" on that plate.

Which is why I think something may be bent? But nothing is obvious to me. It's the sort of csr that would have had a snow into a curb moment.

Surely if the hub or shaft were bent it would rotate elliptically. That would serious vibrations when driven.

Yeah that's why I made that little "runout gauge" haha. From a puller and a socket. I thought the same, the tip would draw a little circle in the air.

As it is the entire wheel and brake are turning in a flat plane, but with a bit of positive camber.

But it is definitely enough that it has come into contact with that back plate.

And it worsens if you turn away from it... load it up.

Does it scuff if you bolt the disc on with a couple of wheel nuts and spin it? I have seen these also with aftermarket discs catching the backplate

Yeah it does. I think he got the wrong discs and pads.

The pads had built in anti squeal shims and I briefly had double shims in there till I realised it was too fat and took the lexus ones out.

The discs probably don't have the right clearance at the back and the back plate is more likely bent than the shaft. As Stephen said if the shaft and bearing were gone it'd be horrid to drive.

So It's probably the back plate and disc combination.
